200 Character signature limit

The 200 character limit is incredibly constricting. There are so many great quotes I'd like to put there, but the necessity to keep to Twitter-esque brevity makes me just want to leave the space blank. Kindly request an increase to 300.

It's not as if 300 will take much more space on the screen than 200, if any at all. The avatar is already the biggest indicator of the amount of vertical real estate a post is going to take up. My current signature would have to be quadrupled in size to even make a difference.

Why do you feel the need to put a long quote?

Le Roi 09-13-2011 09:56 AM

BTW, allowing 300 character signature may not increase the size of the screen, but it does add up to distracting text when scrolling through threads. I sometimes already get annoyed with signature that seem to take up the full 200 characters.

*sigh* No worries. It can stay empty.

Because it resonates?

Honestly I'd love an expansion of, say, 100 characters simply because it doesn't add that much length, it doesn't make for more scrolling, and it vastly increases our options. There are so many things I'd love to use except I can't because I'd either have to butcher it or it wouldn't make any sense.

I wanted to put this full quote in my sig, but I couldn't:

“Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired. Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” --Mother Teresa

If a long signature is important to you, you can always add a "signature" manually: put your signature in a text file and copy/paste it below your post:

This is the most effective way to get put on an ignore list.

It doesn't really affect me. A small increase wouldn't hurt. But, no pictures or banners, ever.

So pictures can be used in signatures? In that case, I am glad pretty much all members have shown restraint in that regard. I cannot stand the whole cyberpunk/Blade Runner looking forums. Scroll... scroll... scroll... X!

You should try (or not try) some soccer forums I know - animated gifs and state size graphics just overrun the pages

BillyTheAdult 09-21-2011 08:36 PM

I am all for an increase. Earlier in the day I first saw this thread I tried to change to a signature that was apparently over 200 characters. I'd still love to be able to use it.

If you are using vbulletin, there is an option in your profile to turn off peoples sigs so that you can't see them.
