I read an article written by him some time ago in which he says he doesn't want to tell people about the exact money he makes. So it's unlikely he will answer your question.

That's fair enough. It's a pretty personal thing, and If someone asked me I'd say it was none of their business, but it pays the bills.

I've seen plenty of affiliate marketers out there post compete breakdowns of their incomes each month. It can be instructive because it can give someone a sense of what is possible and what kind of products make the most money.

Perhaps you have no sense of privacy or personal boundaries, or an idea of what being rude is?

Asking someone you don't really know what kind of money they make is universally known to be rude and invasive...ask any business man or woman for that matter.

I actually never understood why it is considered to be rude to ask someone how much money they are making up until recently.. I remember when a stuntman was giving a lecture on his profession to kids and one kid asked him how much money do stuntmen make. The organizers told the kids off like "Don't you know it's rude to ask questions like that?!". It didn't make any sense to me, because when you're evaluating a possible career choice, it would make sense to know how much money people in that profession are making, wouldn't it? I don't know the reason why OP is asking that, but it would make sense for a wannabe pro-blogger to ask that question, because Steve's one of the most successful bloggers out there and it's useful to know how much money the best people in your field are making.. Anyway, recently I realized that there's a lot of crap around the topic of money, because grown ups tend to associate their own worth and the worth of others around them with money, therefore making a small amount of money will generally cause contempt and judgement and making a lot of money will generally cause jealousy and judgement, not even talking about the fact that most people feel entitled to question everyone's financial choices..Oh, everything was easier in the sandbox, wasn't it?

I guess. I grew up hearing this from my parents, and having a father who is very private in his affairs, that made sense. Maybe there are lots of other businessmen who aren't that private these days, and I've seen some people over the Internet showing links of their monthly gross income and that was to get people to sign up to whatever their biz was...like selling whatever. I can see the sense in that, and if they choose to reveal that for the world to see then that's fine.

There is something that feels really rude to me when a complete stranger asks someone in business how much money they make though...but perhaps that is just due to my upbringing...and a belief imposed on me!

Yeah, It can influence the way a person perceives you when you make lots of money and it can change the way people treat you. It can also make you a target for thieves or anyone looking to take what you have...though I don't think that would be a problem for steve here...but you never know?

This is actually pretty cultural-in some cultures it's totally normal to ask someone how they make, it's almost like asking them "What do you do?" Incidentally, those cultures tend to have much less income inequality than cultures where it's taboo to talk about how much you make...I wonder why?

Not saying that Steve should answer if he doesn't want to, but it's helpful to keep a broader perspective.

Yeah, I'm starting to understand this just now. I always thought it was a universal thing that you just didn't ask that sort of thing, but I can see how it can be a practical thing without being rude or invasive...that's just how I've been raised, and it's funny because I question most things, but I never questioned that...it just always seemed to make sense to me, because I'm a very private person.

Steve's primarily motivation isn't to be seen as an affiliate marketer but as a personal development teacher.
He didn't like the conversation that it produces.
As a result he stopped speaking about how much money he makes.
