Default Steve-Mental defrag

We all know the art of personal development is hard, and strenuous.

People who embark on such an endeavor need to work at 100% capacity to reach their goals. The problem is, forcing ourselves into 100% capacity can cause us to 'burn-out'.

Sometimes we may need to take a day and recharge, just like a battery. After working 100% all week we need a time to breath.

Do you find that you need a day of mental defrag? like just resting or hanging out?

I don't know anyone who works at 100% capacity, not even Steve. I don't even know anyone who knows what it would be like for them to work at 100% capacity. If someone were to be working at 100% capacity then they'd never suffer any setbacks, because a setback would be working below 100%. And if you're not experiencing setbacks or challenges that cause you to slip off your A-game, then you're likely not growing your A-game. A factory that's working at 100% capacity has no room to improve, because if it did, then it wouldn't be working at 100% capacity.

The point of hard work is to face down the challenging questions that allow you to take a break without everything going to hell. If Steve doesn't write a blog post for three weeks, his site still does just fine. That's because he designed his hard work to create things that serve him.

Learning to do the things Steve does, and write the way Steve writes, took hard work; but he didn't have to work at 100% capacity to achieve those things. Steve's post on Calibration will give you a good idea of how much he failed to run at 100%, and how embracing his "newbiness" served him much better than an expectation of doing his best right from the get go.
