Default CGW in the NY Times

Got another mention in the NY Times in an article about how bloggers make money. It can be found on their website here (the part about StevePavlina.com is the last 2 paragraphs):
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/26/te.../26basics.html

The print edition comes out Thursday morning, and the article should be in the business section.

Unfortunately the reporter got the data I told her mixed up, so the figures aren't accurate.

There's also small pic on the left side of the page from CGW (the one attributed to Bron Johnson). This is a shot of everyone cheering Sonya Sidky after she became the room's champion of Ultimate Rock-Paper-Scissors.

All I did was answer the phone when it rang.

haha, 100 000$ a month in commissions, eh? Now that little mistake might drive looooots of would-be-professional-bloggers here!

I told her that this site probably generates around $100K per month in sales of various products and services, and I earn commissions on those sales. But I don't earn $100K per month in commissions of course. That would require some very generous affiliates paying 100% commissions. Amazon doesn't pay anywhere near that amount, for instance.

I thought I was pretty clear in explaining it, but I guess I can see how she misinterpreted it.

As for earning $40K from workshops, I don't know where she got that figure. If you note that each ticket is $497-597, it would only take 80 people or so to generate $40K, and there were 115 people just at CGW #1 and probably about 100 at CGW #5. It's probably closer to $40K per workshop.

With one figure being too high and the other being too low, maybe they balance out somehow.

Having been in the blogosphere for almost 7 years, I've seen all sorts of creative figures associated to my website. Some are accurate, but many are just wild guesses made by other people. When you see figures reported about other bloggers, I think you have to take it with a grain of salt. Just do your own thing, and don't worry about how much money other people are earning. If you make a strong contribution to your field, you'll do just fine.

I agree. Some are also from people who didn't read their own article before submitting. One of my favorite articles about your success "There's money to be made by blogging" highlighted your success and claimed you can make on average $300 per month. lol.

Lol. That's how much money I was bringing in from a few shareware games right before I declared bankruptcy back in the 90s.

I like how open you are about talking of your earnings . Eh, 100K in sales is nothing to be sneezed at in any case, the commissions would still be enough to feed your kids .

NO! NO! NO! your suppose to let people believe that you actually generate 100k per month in revenue so they can try to beat that figure(even if it's imaginary).

In that sense, you can help other people.
