Hey Steve, just wanted to let you know that my "application" should be arriving via mail sometime EDIT: Tuesday or Wednesday. As I mentioned in the last Help Wanted thread, my girlfriend and I will be in Vegas this Tues-Thurs (arriving Monday night). If Rachelle is still in town, it could be fun for the four of us to get together. I test out all my personal growth theories firsthand with my girlfriend, so we've had a ton of interesting experiences together and it would be fun together with another conscious growth-oriented couple and see what we might glean from each other. Plus, spending some time with me in person will give you a pretty clear idea whether or not I'm someone you could see yourself working with down the road. My letter lays out specific ways I think I could help grow your business that wouldn't require putting me on the payroll until after the projects start reaching profitability (which will probably take several months at a minimum). It's several thousand words long, and I know you're probably receiving many other ideas and applications, so feel free to put off reading it till you have some spare time. But, since this I don't travel to Vegas often (the last time I was in town was for the 2007 ICDI conference) I figured we should take advantage of the opportunity to get together now. I put a page with contact info on top of my letter so that you could get in touch with us when we're in town. If you'd like to get in touch without waiting for the letter, you can just add an @gmail.com to my user name (omitting the space, obviously Lastly, no hard feelings if it works out that we don't end up meeting up on this trip. I trust that everything will work out for the best. Thanks again for opening yourself up to new opportunities and spurring me to think and create in new ways. It's been a lot of fun. When the post was first published, I ran away, lol. I loathe signs that advertise the possibility of becoming someone's employee Later I found out it was an April Fool's joke. |

| Yes, although my version of an interview is pretty casual, more like a let's-hang-out-and-talk session. I expect to do a lot more of that in the weeks ahead. Most of the apps are unsuitable for various reasons, but there have been some very interesting ones in there to follow up with. The main reason for turning people down is when they're way too vague in what they're offering or suggesting, i.e. nothing concrete that I can grasp... just a general intent to want to work together in some capacity, raw enthusiasm, but no specific skills to bring to the table. Since they don't offer anything that stands out relative to the others, they don't position themselves as good choices to work with. |
