Default Looking for the article where Steve pokes fun at a college education

hi,

I've been searching Steve's archives for a post he did (I suspect last year) where he poked fun at teens who go to college for a liberal arts education. I can't remember the title or its content other than the point about the liberal arts education. Clearly, a seed was planted when I originally read it and I'd like to return to it for some perspective.

If you know the title of the article I'm referring to, please post to let me know so I can revisit it.

Thanks

Was it the one about ego where he said that people who didn't want to get a real education went for that?

Umm... I think I know what you were talking about but can't remember either.

I'm not sure, are you referring to this, How to Build a Stronger Ego ?

I thought more about that article and I remember it going something like: "don't do x if you still: live with your parents; attended college for a liberal arts education; etc"

hmm, I think the article had something to do with Feedback and projecting ourselves onto Steve.

I disagree with everyone who disagrees with me...

Is this what you're referring to?

I lost a lot of respect for Steve for that post, honestly. He comes off super condescending and arrogant. Of course, I will defend my liberal arts education til the day I die, or at least until I pay off my student loans.

hah, that's it! Thanks! I've been searching through the blog post archives thinking it was a blog post.

I'm curious, how does Steve come off super condescending and arrogant, and what does he need to do so that he doesn't come off super condescending and arrogant?

Well, it could just be that I'm taking it personally because I identify with a lot of the things on that list. I realize he's being somewhat tongue-in-cheek, which is a style of humor I use sometimes too, but yikes.

It just seems really obvious that he's trying to prop himself up and make himself feel good by belittling others, which is not a strategy I particularly respect, especially not from someone who claims compassion as one of his core values. I feel like he alienated a lot of people with that post.

I understand.

If you find this interesting, you can explore why Steve belittles others and sometimes comes off super condescending and arrogant by checking out "The Work": http://www.thework.com/downloads/lit...English_LB.pdf
You can scroll down to the end of page 6 to jump into the short exercise.

It's super helpful

Sometimes I think Steve does appear a bit arrogant. But I don't think this is because he actually is, I suspect it is more because he is poking fun at people who are holding limiting beliefs, or because he is being ruthless and cutting out the things (and people!) who are wasting his time and holding him back.

Since there's only one consciousness, we can only poke fun at ourselves. This can be a valuable tool for growth because it helps us accept what we haven't yet acknowledged.

Was my college education a waste of time and money? I'd say that's partly true. I got some value out of it, but the value didn't come from the classroom learning.

Do other people waste time and money on college? Of course. Many are in denial about it though.

This one is interesting on the list. How does this work with the change to Savage? Of course the majority of long term forum members, know who you are, and your not really hiding by using your picture as the avatar, just caught my eye.

I've been waiting for that article. It's only a natural next step after attacking employment.

I came to this realization through a string of "synchronicities" that were sparked after reading your two-part Stretch Goals post. I've been journalling every day since that post was published, pruning inaccurate beliefs via "The Work" - for the past three years I've only journalled (that is, actively examined my thoughts and beliefs), say, four times(!), with little results.

It's as if I my awareness jumped by 10 levels after digesting that post, prompting me to critically examine all my thoughts, including those about reality itself. Since then, I've got my diet and exercise on track resulting in a loss of 13 lbs of fat, discarded the path of attending college --which freed up an enormous amount of mental "RAM"-- and I'm in the middle of building my own business.

Most of steve's posts tend to give me syncronicities, even if it's just random numbers on the clock. It's weird!
