hiSteve, Like many others, I had been a fan of ur blog for a while...... I quite enjoy ur idea of chasing passive income because it lack freedom for chasing active income. However, if everyone going for passive income, there would not be policemen on the street, no firemen. Even worse, no plane flying because all pilots now working hard for the dream to earn passive income as Entrepreneurs. Another more serious issue is that, in my opinion, not everyone have the ability to be successful to earn passive income as living. In ur case, you are, if not top talent, must be well above average talent. For example, u could do complicated computer game programming and cut short the amount of time to earn the double degrees. Even so, given as high talent as u, even u need few years to keep the low income. For many others (below) average talent guys, I 'm not so sure if they can ever get themselves out of the low income period. Although world class skill can be learnt by giving in effort, but still, talent played a big part in the success factor, at least affecting the low income struggling period length. In your case, i think for those above average (top) talent guys, they are suitable to become entrepreneurs. Otherwise, their abilities would likely got buried and wasted under the corporate hierarchy political environment. But for those (below) average talent guys, they are very suited for those corporate environment because the politics and hierarchy can somewhat protect them. In conclusion, my strange gut feeling is that not all suitable to go for passive income. Many (below) average talent guys should go for active income only, and it even better got themselves into big corporate for hierarchy protection. While for those above average (top) talent guys, they should go for passive income by becoming entrepreneurs so that their talent could be fully utilized. thanks, Alfred. |

what about people working on automating the processes of taking trash to the dump, policing, firefighting etc what if people worked on robotic methods that did this or automated these activities???? (for example, there used to be a job where someone had to come and collect peoples poop & take it away when there wasn't flushing toilets) in the meantime, people seem to be willing to do these activities in return for money |

certainly there are some jobs that can be automated to certain degrees, but those fire & police stuff are just some examples...... in the end, there must be something cannot delegated to automation by nature...... Let 's not distracted out of the MAIN CORE inherited issues of passive income. |

please note that I myself also like the idea of being able to generate passive income. the idea is great!!! at the end, all boss/investors of companies only making use of labors for their own benefits. those good companies taking care of employees are very rare, and those must be very lucky employees...... however, before going for passive income and giving up active income, one must be careful to WEIGH objectively his/her own abilities first...... | I don't think he meant to say that you have to earn passive income. Just that it's a great thing to do and worth the effort. Heck, you can earn passive income in conjunction to active income if that's what you want to do. And, not everyone is cut out to earn passive income anyway, so no worries ever that we'll ever run out of firemen or policemen out there.

right, passive income is worthwhile to do in conjunction with active income. these days, increasing number of good or excellent websites that raise alternatives that people to go for the dream of entrepreneurs, but most only mentioned the positive sides and not talk enough about the issues behind. There is chance that some will go for entrepreneurs decision by impulse or emotion...... As this site so popular, hopefully, it could, as a leader, also discuss more of BOTH sides of the road to being entrepreneurs, and esp. some UNsuccessfully stories, so that people properly plan ahead...... |
