Very cool. I think this will be a very thought-provoking topic for a lot of people.

I can't help but relate this to my Everquest days. I used to try getting these in-game businesses going that required a fair amount of capital and experimenting. Whenever I ran low on cash, I'd do some "farming", which would basically involve killing the same monsters or NPCs over and over for money. Then it was back to the experimenting until I ran out of cash.
Whenever you run low of capital, you can farm your PD business for a while and go back to experimenting. That's just hilarious.

Wow. "Farm your PD business" I think we just figured out what Steve's secret project is! He's going to make an MMORPG for Growth!

Hahaha, I kid, I kid.
(anyway we dream characters all know that the world is just a MMORPG
being played on the Platform of Consciousness, anyway )

Steve,
When you mentioned that money motivates you just about as much as getting a high score in a video game, that really resonated with me. (again, game dynamics) How do you keep taking the words right out of my mouth?

I realize 2010 was rather tumultuous for you, but look at yourself now: wiser, with more self-knowledge than ever before. I'm looking forward to seeing what this newfound perspective and clarity brings for you this year!

much love,
Andreas

Happy New Year, Steve. I'm sure you'll have another interesting year. Hopefully it goes well for you, but at the same time, I know that no matter what happens, we are unconditionally safe. So whether or not these alternative business models work out, you will always have the reference experience that you tried something new and it either worked or didn't work. Happy 2011...
