Default Translation using stevepavlina.com.br domain

Hi, Steve and everyone.

Now that you've released the copyright for your articles, I'm thinking of translating them to portuguese. The first thing that came to mind was to create a "translated" mirror of your site. So, my question is:

What do you think about the idea of using a domain name like stevepavlina.com.br (.br is the suffix for brazilian websites) to host your translated articles? Do you oppose it in any way?

My idea is to host your articles (translated) and noone else's content, so it won't be your name linked to other's people writings.

Since it's still your name, I guess you should be the one to say if its ok to use it...

Thanks,

Rodrigo

I can't speak for Steve here, but my guess is this would fall into the category of "Don't bother to ask".

Plenty of other people already have domains with "steve pavlina" in it, even before the release. Those of us doing a translation of his work have tended to want to use his name in the domain and don't see a problem with it.

It's fine with me if you can find a way to clarify on the site that I'm not personally running it.

If things get out of hand, I'll just change my real name to Savage.

Well, then I guess I better also register savagepavlina.com.br

But I'll make sure it's explicit that it is an independent translation website.

hi rodrigo.

i've just started a translation to portuguese from portugal. i think it doesn't overlap your project since it is a little bit different the way that we express ideas in portugal and in brasil

anyway my goal is to translate every post since the first one. so it will take some time to translate everything, couple of weeks maybe or a life-time endeavour ..aahhh ..it's my stubborn mind..

what is your idea? do you want to translate some group of articles more relevant like the polyphasic experiment? or more like random articles?

Hi, Silvino.

Initially my idea is to translate articles that I think are gonna make a difference for the reader. In that sense, I'll probably start by translating the most meaningful articles like the ones on life purpose or self-discipline.

I don't have a script, so I guess I'll choose the articles to translate as I go.

Abraços,

Rodrigo

Steve, is it possible to create international subdomains like ru.stevepavlina.com? I guess it can be stated in a plain view that they are supported by volunteers and not by you personally.

I wasn't planning on doing that up front. Maybe down the road if some site emerges as clearly the best resources for a certain language. I'd rather see what people come up with first.

^that proposal sounds good. that way there's a single place online which is "official", and steve could even monetise the international traffic perhaps.

In the past I've gotten dozens of requests from potential international partners, but I have no way of predicting how committed or competent they'll be in the long run.

The software industry has already found a decent way to solve this problem though. If you make a new platform, you can let everyone develop apps openly, and then form closer ties with those who've done something cool and who might make good long-term partners. This tends to work better than trying to pick from among potential partners in advance.
