Default Steve,are you Anti-Enlightment?

Steve, how you doing? Look, this just crossed my mine.I remember reading a wall post on your facebook fan page, where you said,"Forget trying to awaken, try to become lucid instead,"and another quote on one of your blog entries here, where you said,"Enlightment isnt something you seek, but something you remember,oh please.,"...Anyway Steve,Im wondering whats this about. Are you against the ideal of Enlightment, because even Erin has used the later quote you said?Im a little tired,so I didnt really go in dept with this question, but you get the idea...FYI Steve...The Attention blog was nice........

What is the meaning of enlightenment anyway?

According to Mirriam-Webster:

To be enlightened:
Quote:
: freed from ignorance and misinformation

: based on full comprehension of the problems involved
Why make a big deal out of a simple concept? Why care if Steve is anti-it or not? What about you? What do you think about being freed from ignorance and misinformation? Why do people seem to want Steve to think for them even about really simple concepts?

Or I could be completely unenlightened about your post and you just want a simple chat with Steve regarding his opinion on this simple matter. I'm open to the lack of enlightenment and possible freedom from my ignorance regarding your question.

The greatest enlightenment you will ever experience is giving up on achieving enlightenment. Either that or call yourself enlightened and get it over with.

A more inconclusive topic I do not know.

Hmmm... so I have to decide between going outside and exploring another new city today (Salt Lake City), seeing things I've never seen and having experiences I've never had... or stay on my laptop and type answers to questions.

Bye!

...and therein lies my answer.

I think the problem is just that people use a million different definitions for the word "enlightenment," which makes the concept ambiguous and therefore useless.

I like the Buddhist definition which is basically "the end of suffering." Striving to reduce my own suffering, and increase my own happiness, has been extremely helpful for me-and it's a pursuit I don't intend to abandon at any point.

I remember the last time someone around here claimed to be enlightened.

He was young too. Around 19 years old, IIRC.

Steve doesn't believe in anything He's pro using-the-best-lens-to-look-at-the-world-depending-on-the-situation.

That said, he mentioned somewhere that the people he'd met who claimed to be enlightened seemed to be cheats to a one.

Personally, I am still looking for what my point of view is going to be, but I admit that some of the most powerful writers I know call themselves enlightened, and their word counts quite a lot for me.

'Enlightened' people must get very bored with the rest of us, and lonely for that matter. It would be quite alienating I'd imagine to be totally enlightened in a world full of ignorant people.YouTube - HQ | I'm So Ronery by Kim Jong - Team America: World Police

I enjoy recognizing when I'm ignorant, as it makes space in me to learn more. If I knew everything there'd be no point in being here.

I don't get bored with unenlightened people. I get bored with enlightened people. I read an account of an enlightened person who sometimes resides in West Palm Beach. I didn't want to go see him. I can't imagine the enlightened person's club would be one I'd want to be in.

Too many unenlightened and enlightened people treat enlightenment as the end of personal growth. I look at it as the beginning. Do it right now, then you can start working usefully towards external goals.

Enlightenment does not and can not make you incapable of being wrong. It doesn't jack all the knowledge of the universe into your head. It just makes you better able to deal with the chaotic vicissitudes of life.

That's an enlightening statement. When you can admit to being wrong, it's freeing. I'll have to look up 'vicissitudes' though...never heard of it?

One of the more unfortunate things about enlightenment is that it makes it much much easier to convince yourself of things that aren't true. I think many would-be enlightened people fell down because of this. Even if it doesn't cause you to fall, you can miss out on amazing experiences because you've convinced yourself you don't need them.

I believe enlightenment is a useful skill that can be gained in a month with dutiful practice. Basically it allows you to drop your attachments to thought, experiences and events. It also allows you to choose better courses of action in situations where you used to be programmed to react in only one.

Possibly one of the most accurate visual representations of enlightenment available to date. Slide on over shakyamuni buddha, you don't even know what you're effing talking about!

I never quite understood enlightenment. That probably means im not enlightened.
Im not really sure what it means to be enlightened. Its just seems like a special way to identify as being better. Rather confusing spiritual concept.
