Default Lightworker/Darkworker & levels of consciousness.

The levels of consiousness model makes a lot of sense to me. Fear and neediness are necessarily limiting. Once you transcend them, your self-centred needs are satiated and you set your sights and your goals wider.

I don't see how a life of self-focussed 'polarity' and a life of other-focussed 'polarity' can both be meaningful paths and the levels of consciousness model be correct.

Under the levels of consciousness model, a life of self-focus means that you haven't even reached the 'gateway' level of 'acceptance'.

The only way I can see to reconcile the two models is to say that the levels of consciousness aren't actually a progression. But that doesn't feel right.

Thoughts?

wow, I just posted elsewhere this same idea. I completely agree.

Anyone care to hazard a guess at an answer?

Personally I disagree with Steve in the way he characterises darkworking as fear-based. Rather I see darkwork as loving yourself over others, while light is loving others over yourself.

If you look at it from the perspective of love-of-self vs. love-of-others, then the levels of consiousness model works fine for either polarity.

Both polarities will naturally involve some sort of fear, but the fear will be overcome using the processes of advancing on the levels of consiousness ladder.

I see the two polarities as mirrors of each other, except the love is either focused inward or focused outward.

It's true that a love of others may involve a fear of your own power, and that a love of yourself may involve a fear of others, but these are limiting emotions for either side of the equation and a well disciplined personality will overcome that fear and focus on his love.

IMO the Star Wars analogy fits in that Fear is the path to the dark side, but the opposite of fear is not love. The opposite of Fear is Faith, and Faith is the path to the light side.

Both sides involve love, but the love is polarized differently. Love is the driving force in all of the universe, and if you want to extend the Star Wars analogy, love is The Force.

I've been waiting for an answer to this for days! Please, somebody figure it out!

Perhaps this article might shed some light:
WEI WU WEI ARCHIVES : THE TENTH MAN - 87

My interpretation of it is that consciousness has nothing to do with good/bad or light/dark, but everything to do with attachment and identification. For lightworkers, they would give of themselves so much that their identification and ego-sense dissolves into All-that-is, whereas for darkworkers, they would take from others so much that their identification and ego-sense also dissolves into All-that-is by virtue of having so much power under themselves that their sense of "I" includes their entire environment.

Theoretically it makes some kind of sense, but I still can't get myself to believe it, lol

Hmm. Faith in what though? There's several possibilities:
  • Self
  • God
  • Things
  • Others

The way I see it, dark is more faith in specific things like self (ego), resources, and particular people. Light is more faith in general things like God, the universe, that things will work out, etc.

yep very good insight imo

I didn’t elaborate but I basically agree with you

It’s even more of a mirror image than I stated, to do with the way each polarity treats the issues of faith, fear, love in opposite ways that have to do with self vs. others.

But to be concise, when I said faith I essentially mean "faith that things will work out" like you said, or another way to put it is "faith that everything is as it should be."

Essentially, faith that there are no errors, that all is well, that we've never left perfection and never will.

The darkworkers have faith as well, but it's a different kind of faith. It's faith in their own innate superiority.

The ultimate answer IMO is that both polarities blend together into one at a certain point and then the infinite self comes to know the self. All is one, and the various distortions we see are methods of the infinite creator knowing itself. As we become enlightened we once again approach a realization of this truth - that we are all and that all is one.

The fear of the dark path is an outward fear, fear of others, fear of infringement, fear of pain and suffering.

The fear of the light path is a fear of yourself. Fear of your own power, fear of inadequacy, imperfection, and worthlessness.

Conversely, faith in the light is faith in the rightness of the universe, and a striving for the self to join the universe in unity. It's a faith and striving towards unity.

Faith in the dark is a faith in individual superiority, a faith in separation. Striving to separate oneself from others and in the end dominate them.

Ultimately the dark side merges with the light as all things come to unity, but the dark side takes a different path as all unique consciousnesses take.

Each person will experience both of these aspects, but will consciously reject one path and choose the other. As he does this he polarizes in the way of his choice. The choice is entirely up to the individual - nothing is pre-ordained.

And so our challenge for the Earthly existence is to choose. To pick a side, to discipline our personality, to make a path for ourselves in whatever way we feel is best.

Well I'm still testing/evaluating the hypothesis that grey is a valid strategy. In other words, the idea that a conscious person can embrace nonpolarity (or dipolarity) and be just as well off. That involves seeing both as part of the same continuum and being able to flip from one to the other easily. Hypothetically, this is a learnable skill. But not necessarily an easy one.

I can say love is the foundation of my life, that I ultimately want to serve others. But I can also say self-interest is a useful perspective to have. Not wanting to appear weak, transmuting fear to resolve, taking pride in myself and what I can do, etc. can be powerful strategies. And can be ultimately used to serve those I love. Just as surrounding myself with positive people ultimately serves my self-interest, making me happier, more powerful, and more effective.

I'd like to say that the love-of-selfvs. love-of-others needs tweaking. Iwould add to that the love-of-others would include yourself or that by loving others you recognize that others are somehoe connected to you. And also it's hard to love someone else if you don't love yourself too.

SoI see the polarities as an expanding of how far you let your love go out. Dark is keeping the love close and light is expanding that love but also keeping self love going too.

Idon't feel that when I have loving thoughts for others that I have stopped lovingmyself or made myself less important than them - I have just been able to include them in the love I have generated for myself.

Inward, inmy mind, doesn'tflip to outword, inward expands to include more that the feelings touch.

Wolfgang I think we are very close to congruence but this is how I would state it:

The positive polarity focuses on cultivating a love of others and tends to sacrifice or ignore cultivation of a love for himself. With this love of others, he seeks out service. Service to others is the creed of the postitive polarity, and in order to best serve he must certainly keep his own "self" in good shape, therefore one lesson is to love himself as he loves others. But since there are many others and only one of himself, the positive polarity will naturally place the far majority of his efforts on serving others.

So for instance the positive polarity strives to dedicate his focus 99%+ to service to others because he has cultivated an intense love for them. As part of this he hopefully automatically reserves a small amount for himself, as he hopefully sees himself as equally worthy of love as any other individual. These efforts brings him towards unity with the universe. The natural separation that all people feel diminishes as he walks the path. The path lasts for eons - fault, failure and fear are continual companions. IMO anyone who reaches 99% polarization towards others has certainly moved beyond enlightenment and is no longer a resident of this Earth. The average polarity on Earth is probably somewhere around 25% service to others, 75% service to self. (This is a total guess)

The two polarities deal with fears (which certainly include fears of all kinds) through faith. Faith is the answer to fear, and the positive polarity puts his faith in the rightness of existence. His faith gives him courage and his courage gives him strength to act in service to others. He cultivates this faith in the rightness of the universe as he cultivates his love of others.

The negative polarity conversely cultivates a love for himself. As he comes to love himself more and more, his fear becomes primarily a fear of others and the pain and suffering others can cause him. Over time he learns to overcome this fear through faith in himself - faith in his own superiority. He separates himself from others as if he were different and better than them. His consiousness is like a black hole - he loves himself at the expense of others and sees others merely as tools to serve himself.

Fear is depolarizing wherever you may stand. In order to polarize on the negative path you must overcome your fear of others through faith in yourself. Once a negative entity starts to polarize and has overcome a certain amount of fear of others, if this fear returns and he fails to master it he will depolarized and lose power. In order to regain his polarity he must overcoming that fear once again.

Conversely...

The positive polarity fears himself. In the past he has hurt others through callousness, unsensitivity, ignorance, or lack of control - he did not intend to hurt others but it happens anyway. He fears his own power, as he knows that this power has the potential to cause harm. "First do no harm," says the Hippocratic oath and doing harm is the ultimate fear of the lightworker. To overcome this fear he calls for faith in the rightness of the whole universe, faith that "All is as it should be" and faith that the universe will help him to serve the greater good. His fear of doing harm is paralyzing, and to overcome the paralysis he meditates to find faith in the rightness of the universe. The faith gives him courage and with courage he can act.

He acts by serving others as much as possible and cultivating an intense love for them. Through these actions he comes to know unity. He comes to see that All Is One.

Fear is overcome by faith, and the place a person puts his faith determines his polarity.

Polarity is expressed through love and service, either to self or others.

The further a person polarizes, the stronger the call of the opposite side becomes. A person may be a darkworker who spends many years overcoming fear of others. He has faith in his own superiority. His faith gives him courage, his courage allows him to act in service to himself.

As he continues this process the light side calls to him. He may look back to days when he felt love for others and may yearn for that feeling again. If he indulges this love, he will depolarize and move towards the light side.

This is where Darth Vader remembered the love he felt for his mother, for Padme, and for the family he always wanted. He sees Luke being electrocuted by the Emperor and yearns to feel that love again. The light side beckons and its call becomes irresistable. He wants to release his compassion, to love others deeply as he once did. He heeds the call, kills the Emperor, saves his son, and instantly switches polarity rededicating his willpower towards serving others. He also could have made the opposite choice, and the key is that it was entirely his choice.

He joins Obi-Wan and Yoda in the spirit world, positively oriented once again.

The Choice underlies all of our actions here on Earth, and as we choose the same side again and again our polarity is strengthened.

The goal is to polarize but The Choice is ours.

But why do you need the 'over' at all?

Can't you love everyone including yourself?

We're all people after all.

I'm a big fan of Steve's, but this viewpoint seems disempowering. And Steve taught me that when a viewpoint seems disempowering, there's probably a better one out there.

After all, this is the guy who came up with the "I intend $1m for everyone, including me" affirmation. He's now trying to characterise that as 'externally' polarised, but to me it's clearly 'polarised' to a group that includes both ('everyone') - and what's wrong with that?

To try to return to oneness by serving others means your really trying to help yourself as much as serving others, your trying to fulfill your own need for oneness by giving. To speak of oneness and to say that using polarity is necessary to achieve it makes no sense to me. Giving up opposites or polarities is what oneness is. In either polarity the object is the self.

imo that's positive polarity.

Since there are billions of people and only one "self", positive polarity, when very highly developed, looks a lot like total selflessness. A 99% positively polarized person would live in the most spartan way in order to maximize his overall service. Practically every single thought would be towards service to others. It doesn't mean he hates himself it just means he sees that to maximize the well being of All the best thing he can do is serve others in the ways he has learned.

If someone reaches 100% service to others his needs are still provided for because others are serving him back, like steve was saying in his blog. The person is still ok he just provides absolutely no thought, effort or concern at all towards his own existence.

i dont know if that actually exists but i can imagine it existing

the highest anyone on earth probably polarizes towards others would be like 80%... even someone like Gandhi or Jesus is probably less than 80% service-to-others. While a typical person is like 20% service-to-others.

I agree that both polarities are essentially helping all, since all is one.

However one polarity is consciously striving for unity while the other is consciously striving for separation.

Technically speaking positive polarity is the "one" polarity while negative polarity is a free-will distortion of the original thought. Both positive and negative polarity "work" as far as spiritual development is concerned, but eventually negatively polarized entities willingly convert to positive because they learn that All is One and One includes "others".

There may be "other" polarities that "work". I don't know. But the only two I've heard of that fit with me are negative and positive. There very well could be others, I'm hardly an expert.
