Ah yes I remember that dodgy sales page. When I saw it, I was like "WTF?" because it seemed so out of character. It was interesting to hear that it wasn't effective for the type of people that the CGW attracts, but not surprising.

I would like to see the old sales page too. It would make a good post for the readers (me) of my blog. I was one of those people who wrote to Steve saying that the page was nauseating and very putting off. It was so anti-Steve that I should have seen this coming (taking the page down) and saved it. |

What I liked in the first sales page, the one Steve made, is the honesty. I felt it was really meant for SMART PEOPLE. So while we are busy with cheesy, can you change your picture in the banners also? It looks so funny in the forum, the banner picture next to your avatar. Just be you, we like you for that. Love and care, |

Steve, Someone sent me a link to the infamous sales page. I remember replying to him that he just definitely ruined any chance for me to ever attend a CGW and that you are going down a path that I totally don't resonate with. I called the sales page just plain ridiculous, nothing unique, stupid, personal-development-for-average-dumb-guy and whatnot. I was really harsh on it. What I really disliked though, I think, is that this sales page was so totally not you. I'm a noob at business and I suck at it. I do believe though that the way to go in business (and in all other life areas too) is total authenticity. Your wall-of-text, logical, verbose, simple, intellectual, left-brainy, honest, clear, intelligent, straightforward, courageous, masculine, etc... style, well... that is just you. So your sales page must be that way too, because that is what people want. Not all of them, but it's a good thing that those who don't resonate with you get repelled. I believe that what people really buy is not your workshop or your wisdom or knowledge or experience. What they buy is you, it's the energy you radiate, your unique energy, which they want to expand into by getting in contact with you. Your sales page must reflect this energy in order to attract those people who will benefit from engaging with you. For someone else, flashy sales pages full of "no joke" and "let me s'plain" will work great, because that is who they are. That is not who you are, though. I'm glad you're not going down that path after all. Love. |

Offering value = saying to someone, "Here's a nice breakfast I made you. Please enjoy!" What you described = saying to someone, "I want to open a restaurant. Please tell me what I should put on the menu to make it succeed." You are trying to take/suck value from others. You weren't offering real value that I could see. In terms of social value, you know you have something of "value" if people are willing to pay you for it or if you can leverage it to generate income. And I mean having something to offer this very minute... not merely a promise or intention for something later. You can sell a breakfast if you wish. But good luck selling an intention. An intention may help you create value down the road (whereby the restaurant becomes a reality that starts serving food eventually), but the intention part isn't particularly valuable to anyone but yourself. Generally speaking, nobody is going to care all that much till the restaurant opens and you have real food to put on their plates. | |

Ah, that makes a whole lot of sense. Thanks for the in-depth reply. I feel a lot better about it. Sometimes (well, all the time) I feel that value is created by all of us, every second, and anything can be turned into value. This is the idea I currently love sharing, and one of my current favorites. I also feel that this response means I'll have to prioritize creating enough value to make enough funds to smoothly and enjoyable attend a CGW, which I've yet to do |
