Dear Steve...Pt. 2 (A wishlist)

First of all, thanks a million for fixing the server issue. I haven't gotten the "server is too busy" message for several days now. :D

But now I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we humbly ask you for MORE AND BIGGER STUFF! (It never ends. :p)

I was just in another thread and someone posted something that made me laugh. And alas! What did I see? There is no smiley to convey that! Hark! (haha, ok, I'm being over-the-top here just a lil bit :D)

So, that spawned the idea for this thread. Where we, the users, come in here and hound the bejesus out of you for new and bigger and more awesome features. :D

Off the top of my head, here is my wishlist (others feel free to make your own wish list):

1. A handful of new smileys (I get that you probably don't want dancing bananas and ♥♥♥♥ like that here, but on the flip side there are a few smilies that WOULD be nice to have that wouldn't be useless in that sense: one of them being an "lol" kind of smiley, a "rofl" smiley, etc. For the types of smilies that personally just "hit the spot" for me (lol), look at the YIM smiley list. Those are the best smilies out there IMO.)

2. The ability to change our own titles (instead of the standard "Junior" and "Senior" and "Legendary"--if you happen to be Angela that is :p--titles, it would be fun to make our own titles. Other boards give people this ability and it's nice)

3. Increase the character limit in sigs. There are some longer sized quotes that I would like to put down there, but the character limit cuts you off.

4. Ability to see who is repping you.

For now, that's all I can think of. An idea for this (since it will increase server load and make the database bigger), would be to offer this as a subscription kind of service for those that want some of these things. I'd drop a fiver for this stuff and you in turn could recoup some of your costs.

But that's all for now. I look forward to seeing what stuff others here might want.

Oh, yeah.... that reminds me..... I haven't thanked the admins for hosting and hostessing us here for some time. Thank you for making this all available!

Right on. Agreed.

Or in the words of Wayne and Garth:

We're not worthy! We're not worthy!

Or at least we believed we weren't, until we disconnected our old limiting beliefs and outdated negative emotions! :D

LMAO

Oh, what am I going to do with you? :p

Andrew Brunelle 05-14-2010 07:11 PM

Smileys aren't a big priority to me, but a longer signature would be cool, but how large are we talking here? I would say things are fine the way they are for me at least. I can't really think of something better that could be placed on this forum, other than what you said about us choosing our own names, which would be pretty awesome. This is a forum that condones self-expression, right?

Well, not names (that would get pretty confusing) but titles.

But that's prolly what you meant. :D

As for the sig, I think there is like a 200 character limit right now or something. Bumping that puppy to like 500 would *probably* do the trick.

I'm not into exceptionally large sigs either (and images in sigs drive me batty), but I'm thinking in terms of putting quotes down there.

Inspire me, and allow me to bask in your charisma, of course!

Angela 05-14-2010 07:19 PM

I would like more smilies. Right now the most exuberantly joyful one is this: :D ... and more and more I find that woefully inadequate to express the magnitude of my feeling. :(

:p

Steve is whatever we need him to be. In my subjective reality, Steve is a forum fairy, a unicorn eating grapes up on a grassy knoll, and a big ole zebra who rides on the back of gorillas fighting dragons.

You ARE me. And I am Steve. And Steve is a gorilla-riding-dragon-slaying-zebra.

It's like blue and blue make green. It just makes cents.

In the case of smilies, in case Steve doesn't add them, we always have external sites that make it easy for us.

I always liked this site's smilies better:

Ever since Steve enabled avatars, the posting space has been squeezed into longer, skinnier text. I find this harder to read. It used to be the same size as when you preview your post.

I wish he would put the stuff on the sidebar up top and give us more posting width. Anybody with me?

Nah, not me. It took me a LONG time to get used to the way things were laid out here before. It made everything kinda confusing and sometimes it was difficult to see who said what.

But the wonderful thing about forums is that you have the ability to make skins. So, maybe on our huge wishlist, we could petition for Steve to make a few skins and have one of them do what it is your wanting it to do?

Lioness 05-15-2010 06:17 PM

What's a skin? The ability to configure a page to the way you like to read?

Please give more details, thanks...

Karanime 05-16-2010 04:39 AM

Absolutely, skins.

But under no circumstances should we get rid of the forum's current layout. As long as this remains an option, I'm all for it.

Second on the longer sig.

I think a skin is the colour scheme.

Lucidism 05-16-2010 02:55 PM

It can be more than just a color scheme. It can also rearrange the layout. Basically, a skin is a layout.

The forum already has an ignore function built-in.

supertom 05-16-2010 11:58 PM

oooo never knew that.

James81 06-29-2010 07:18 PM

:d :d :d

James81 06-29-2010 07:19 PM

^ I know why that does that.

That's supposed to be the :D smiley.

And if you don't post a lower case letter with it, the forum coverts the uppercase "D" to a lowercase "d" and breaks the smiley.

Could you either turn off the function that switches all uppercase letters like that or add ":d" as part of the code that makes the :D smiley?

Check out below, I'll do the three in a row again, but i'll add a lowercase letter with it:
