Making the "ugly" beautiful. What's next, a website redesign? I could recommend a loving, truthful and powerful creating web designer

I really liked this one. It brought out personal development from the general into something specific. It's great for those of us who have not yet invested in your book. I also think it's greatt that you're fixing this area of your life. If you think about the effect clothes have on your body you realise how important it is to choose the right clothes. I mean, if you have a pair of pants that has a tiny flaw it can really bug you like crazy. Also, every little detail counts. If you have an item with one small flaw it probably bugs you much more than if it had ten flaws. Because if it has many flaws you can just accept that it is crappy overall. But with one little flaw and the rest perfect, that really messes with your head. |

I'm definitely enjoying this series of articles. Quite often I reflect on how I want to present myself to the world (clothing choice obviously being a big part of that), so it's interesting to hear how you are going about the process. Oh, and if your friend did start a 'Fashion Blog for Smart People' I for one would be most grateful. |

You look spectaculous! I must admit that I only read the principles and LOA parts, but great article anyways! EDIT: About a year ago I was having some kind of vibes of you and your clothing. Pretty frequent too! Last edited by Aleksander Krstic; 12-05-2009 at 09:54 AM. |

I just went on a major online shopping spree and blame it entirely on these posts. |

Steve, it's about time you really dove into fashion. I really like that picture in the blog entry and that you now use as your avatar. You shared some very interesting points and this is a very powerful and new way for you to express yourself. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I think it's awesome that you're beginning to develop your sense of presentation offline as you have online. It's interesting though -- I don't think you quite "own" your look yet. I once saw a kid in college who had to dress nicely for a speech. This was a baggy jeans sort of guy, so when he showed up, his suit just looked wrong on him. There was nothing particularly wrong with the suit, but it was almost like it was "crooked" on his frame, like he was moving around inside it, or just wearing it as a costume. The picture you show is similar -- glasses are nice, shirt is fine, but you look a little awkward in it. Maybe it's just a matter of growing into your new found fashion sense? |

I think you look very good indeed, I just have question about the sunglasses... Although I understand the use of them outside where the sun is shining, I don't find them fitting with the image that I have off you. This is of course because of the image that I have of sunglasses... I believe that they show hiding / not comfortable with yourself when worn inside (as it seems on the picture). Also cool and aloof. That doesn't seem to be what you want to show... I was just wondering if you thought about this, and if so, how your reasoning goes about sunglasses (like your reasoning about your shirt etc). |

If you interpret this picture as a "new look" for me, you're overreaching. This was merely a pic my friend took of me while I was trying on a shirt I was thinking about buying. He handed me the sunglasses to make it more interesting. I posted the pic because I was curious to see what people thought. It's helpful to see people's reactions about what this pic communicates to them. Shows me I'm headed in the right general direction... which appears to be pretty much any direction that moves away from the old jeans and t-shirt look. I haven't worn sunglasses since I was 21 or so. I think it's better to let my eyes soak up the natural sunlight. |

I just read your post on learning fashion. Great stuff!!! I had wondered why you didn't do this before. It seems like you're taking yourself to a whole new level. As you're going to be dating can I give you a few tips; 1) For your hair, go to a salon and have a woman cut your hair. You'll pay a bit more (maybe $30 for a haircut) but it'll last longer and since they don't use trimmers, it will grow out smoother. Also, they'll give you a great style unique to you. Maybe Salon Pavlina? West Bloomfield Salons | Farmington Hills Salons | Farmington Hills Barber | West Bloomfield Barber | Salon Pavlina 2) Tan. When you're a bit darker, clothes look better, and you're going to look like you're leaner and in better shape. Also your teeth will look whiter. 3) If you're ever unsure what looks good, just go to an upscale clothing store; Deisel, Nordstrom's (they have the best of everything but shop in the young men's section), Guess, etc... and ask someone "What do you think would look good on me?" They'll find you a million outfits that look good from head to toe. It's how I upgraded my warddrobe. The same principle applies for shoes or anything else you might need. I'm really excited to see where you'll be in your journey a year from now. |

To be honest, I like the sun glass look, I was just curious if you consciously thought about it. This answered my question

he looks a bit like bon jovi with those glasses. i get the image of a blue '71 Charger sitting in a dirt parking lot, with a guy in dusty, faded jeans leaning against it smoking a cigarette. its not a bad look, but the contrast with his usual image gave me a good chuckle. i've always bought clothes using intuition. i just walk into the store, and try on whatever i feel drawn to. my fashion issue is with my hair. it's incredibly challenging (impossible so far) to find a style that expresses me accurately, looks good, and is manageable with my ungodly stubborn hair. right now i just let it grow out naturally, with no styling. its almost to my jaw line on the sides. i think it's appropriate for my personality, and it looks good, but i want something new. unfortunately, i don't look good with short hair, and the current styling for longer hair isn't to my taste.

Since you reffered to Dave Perry in the 1st article- I think this kind of shirt would look nice on you and the haircut too, and I personally love beard stubble. I dont know the guy at all, didnt even read a word about him, but just from this picture his look says authentic, creative, individual, open minded and successful. Although your new shirt fits you perfectly, which is a great step in the right direction, I'm not too sure about the black, especially with the sun glasses ( I know you didnt buy them). This look kind of says "wannabe" |

Steve, you might want to visit a good shirt maker - that's really the best place to get informed about the different forms available. Does a shark collar fit your neck better than a plain Kent or button down? A back with one fold or two? Or none? Collar and wristbands in another fabric than the trunk? Elegant front or breast pocket? Wristbands with buttons or cuffed with cuff-links (probably to "busy" for you)? Hundreds of different fabrics, boxer shorts suiting to your shirt, &c, &c. Sartorial Heaven in short. The best shirt makers are said to be in London's Jermyn Street, e.g. Turnbull & Asser, outfitter of the ominous Bond, James Bond But I'm sure there are some decent ones in Las Vegas, too. And especially if you want to get a suit or fitting trousers - go to a good taylor. Again, the best are said to be in London - you'd have to walk about a km from Jermyn St to Savile Row. Love and Bliss, Algy P.S. Do you know this splendid feeling of putting on a crisp new shirt in the morning? Strengthens the morals in a way a t-shirt or sweater never will! And makes you feel sexier too. Not to mention it being unbuttoned by the fine hands of a woman Last edited by Algy; 12-06-2009 at 12:59 AM. |

All that black looks really dark and....something i'd expect to see on a slightly sleazy guy in Vegas lol. I imagined you in brighter, 'happier' colors. At the same time, thanks for talking about fashion! I used to be really into trends and places like H&M but I got burnt out on the time and amount of money it took to be involved in fashion. Now I wear a lot of jeans and t-shirts, super boring and not me at all. I definitely need to go shopping like you have! |

I don't like this picture. To me the sunglasses are communicating "I want to hide myself from you". And the half-open shirt (is that the right word for it in English, i am not very good in talking about clothes in English) communicates "I don't care about anything". It is not a message that is congruent with the Steve that I have learned to know and love from his blog and book.

| Damn Interesting • A Life More Colorful Color-blindness is caused by a defect in the x chromosome, which is passed from mother to son. Ironically, according to this article, while this chromosome defect results in color-blindness (dichromat) for males, it can result in improved color vision for women carrying the defective gene (tetrachromat). | Action slacks are probably the best pants around if you want a step up from jeans.
