So since 3 days of having the principles drilled in to my head, I've been applying them wherever I can and have been testing them out with tons of other concepts in my head. And with the whole nature of 3 main principles (the other 4 being additive), I was thinking of the 3 doshas in Ayurveda and they seemed to line up quite well in my mind. I am by no means an expert in Ayurveda, my roommate is doing his doctoral dissertation on hypotheses surrounding whether a link can be found between Eastern and Western practice by correlating the NEO-FFI personality test with the 3 doshas to see if the NEO-FFI can be used as an indicator of dosha. I've also read a good amount of Perfect Health and Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra, but yeah, by no means an expert. Which is why I was thinking of posturing the idea to this forum in hopes of someone here knowing a bit more on the subject to see if how far off I am. So anyways, over the weekend we applied the principles to various aspects of our life (Career and Finance, Emotions, Spirituality, etc.) and though I found that I was slightly varied in my alignments with TLP in certain aspects, I followed a typical trend where I felt strong alignment with Truth most times and was worse with Love and Power. So I was thinking that if Steve decided to come up with a test/inventory asking questions (on a 1-10 scale) across all aspects designed to measure and quantify our alignments, we would each see a measure of our general alignments (much like a personality test) and I would most likely get high scores for Truth. I'm also a Vata type (though I was also told I was Vata-Pitta), and one of the characteristics I thought about was that Vata's were stuck in their head and also very imaginative. These sort of things sounded like traits which a strongly Truth aligned person might have as well (I believe Steve even mentioned something to that effect regarding those aligned with Truth and headiness). Now, my roommate himself is a Pitta type and he is somewhat anal retentive which was something that seemed to me to be a trait of one aligned with strongly with Power, and he is also way more productive and generally more driven to action than I am. As for Kapha types, I've merely read (or gotten the impression somewheres) that they seem to be much more emotional, but also connect better with people... so naturally that'd be Love. Could there be some connection here worth exploring? I mean, if so, then it might be possible to use some Ayurvedic treatments to help people trying to align themselves better with a specific principle... such as increasing kapha energy (through teas, herbs, diet, etc.) in order to aid in someone intentionally trying to align themselves better with Love? On the flip side, could someone who went to an Ayurvedic doctor and was diagnosed with having a Pitta imbalance possibly be out of alignment with Love and Truth (I was gonna say power, but after reading the symptoms of a Pitta imbalance, it sounded to me to be more indicative of too much Power without the balance of the other two, link). This is still just an infant idea in my head, but I figured I'd get it out of my head where we can see if it holds any water. But one thing leads to another, and while I was at it I came upon another concept which has 3 parts and which might relate in here somehow... When I spoke to my roommate about this (since he knows more about Ayurveda than I do ), he seemed intrigued and was going to pass it along to his adviser, but during out discussion another topic came up... which was the Triune brain model. This model that says that our brains evolved through 3 major advancements/layers... the Reptilian brain (R-Complex part of brain in the center) which controls the basic fight/flight decision making and impulsiveness, the Mammalian brain (Limbic system surrounding the R-Complex) which controls our more complex emotions, and finally the Human/Primate brain which controls our reason and higher order thinking. These also seemed to me to possibly align with Power (Reptilian), Love (Mammalian) and Truth (Primate). Now I'm wondering if different brain activity could correlate to our different alignments, and then possibly also to our dosha balance? For instance, I wonder if someone who was out of alignment with Truth when it came to their relationship would have lower cerebral activity when thinking about their relationship and getting a brain scan... or if someone who got a brain scan showing higher R-Complex activity could be accurately deemed a Pitta type? I need to manifest myself some money so I can throw together a study. Well, that's all I've got for now... after writing it all out, I must admit that it feels like there are some holes, but I suppose that's why I'm hoping there are some more knowledgeable people in some of these fields who will read this. Anyways, much appreciation to anyone that reads this far, I feel like I wrote half a chapter of a book here, please let me know if anyone feels curious about this as well or if I'm just speaking from an overly simple point of view. - Shawn Marincas
