Why haven't you seen it? Do you have something against good ol' American entertainment? Or do all your movies have to be "problem films" in French realism style and have won the Palme d'Or?

| A more appropriate question might be why cinemas weren't burned down by enraged audiences after seeing this movie Quote:

Seeker5, please come to the principal's office! I'll have you all know that me and Steve danced to the theme from the Princess Bride movie as our first dance as husband and wife. It was going to be either that or "Somebody" by Depeche Mode. YouTube - Somebody - Depeche Mode - by Luh (somebody) YouTube - Willy Deville - Storybook Love (Unplugged) (princess bride) (starts at 1:30) |

Maybe we should start the workshop with a showing of the movie to make sure we're all on the same page?

I really enjoyed this article, Steve. Several of the unschooling email lists of which I'm a member moderate posts, until we get to know the writer, and whether or not what they'll be posting fits in with radical unschooling philosophy. It has a lot to do with what they say, obviously, but how they say it also plays a part. List owners who moderate get a LOT of flack for that: "Oh! Control freak, are you?" etc., etc. But the truth is, the moderated lists have LOTS more valuable content than the unmoderated lists. People who don't understand (but I thought you unschoolers were open-minded!), are often told their actions are like a meat-eater going to a list dedicated to veganism, and telling the vegans why they're wrong. It's not helpful to further the discussion of veganism - and it's just plain rude. At one point, I didn't understand that - I thought those moderating owners were close-minded, and judgmental, and how dare they? But the longer I've stuck around, the more I get it, and the more I see how necessary it is.

I'm not sure that 20€/year/person results in a wage that even minimum wage. Paying people an amount of money that less than there time is worth sometimes creates more resentment than when those people to that job for free.

I agree with the article, I believe that many people could show each other more respect and politeness. With that, some constructive criticism; I too believe that the article could have done with editing down to be more punchy and less repetitive. Also it felt like it had a different energy too it that was not entirely positive, which didn't gel with me today. But on other days it probably would be fine. Sometimes I find myself in a very different energy space from someone else, so much so that at that time I feel incompatible and need my own space. I guess that's normal though but does it show intolerance? Thanks for the continued hints to watch Princess Bride, I still have not seen it and even my colleagues recommend it, so I really ought to watch it sometime soon! |
