Hey This is my first post here so hello everybody! I read this page for a few years now and also went on my own journey of personal development. I solved some big problems of my life - and a few days ago something really extraordinary happened to me. After I posted a belief board on my wall 3 weeks ago, I started to think about what value could I possibly share with the world to earn my target income? (800 euros a month passive ... I am a student, 21 years old) Note that I do not really care if this will ever make me money I just feel this is so valueable! So I am tempted to share it. I do not really know why I want to share it. So I thought of the personal development and meditation experience that greatly enriched my life in so many ways. It was 4 AM in the morning and I wrote down 150 ideas for articles for 1 hour. I just got flooded with ideas ... I could not stop it. The thing is - I really think this is real value and could be of use to people. But the problem is that my views are very extreme (for normal people) and this could mean that I could risk never getting a job after college (i am 6. semester) ? For example I want to write that I approached over 3 thousand women and overcame my insecurities. And what I learned out of this. And I want to write about real love and the myths of society. I want to write about self image and the flaw of positive thinking. I do not want to have a political career in future but I want to program games maybe. I also would not care if I never get a job again if I can live off creating games online or a weblog. Do you think that a software company may not recruit me in the future because of my extreme views ? Last edited by HCG; 06-19-2009 at 08:35 AM. |

Would you like to work for a company that doesn't accept you or your views? Would you like to be accepted by people by that don't accept how you think? In that case, don't start that blog! I was in a similar situation about a month ago. I didn't like my job anymore and wanted to quit and start a blog about personal development and my experiences with growth. But, if was going to do that, I knew I would start by writing about the fact that I had been addicted to marihuana for the last 8 years. I wanted to write publicly about this (Share Your Shame, anyone?) and about my attempts to overcome the addiction. And I wasn't sure how that was going to affect my future job opportunities. So... I quit the job anyway, started the blog under my own name (Groeien voor beginners! - completely in Dutch though! Titel translates as Growth For Beginners) and now I'm in day 29 of my 30 day trial of not smoking weed. I had one relapse, learned from it, blogged about it and just started over, much more succesfully this time. I also want to share my ideas, views and experiences and I don't care about the consequences. I know this will help other people in my situation. I'm already getting visitors from google who look up things like "quitting weed" and that was my goal. Just thinking I *might* have helped those people a bit gives me a tremendous boost. But I'm also experiencing growth in other areas. I'm setting goals, making daily plans and I'm eating healthier. If I want to help other people, I have to set an example myself. Plus, doing all these things let's me be more productive so I can help even more people! I'd say, go for it! The rewards outweigh the risks by far. In fact, are there really any risks? You know you will always be able to support yourself. Plus, in your heart, you know it's the right thing to do. And once you start writing, your fears will soon go away! Steve said that there are lightworkers and darkworkers. If you plan to be a lightworker, than you have nothing to worry about. Plus you could always use a pseudonym on your blog. The thing I also wanted to tell you was that many of us feel, sooner or later, that some believes we have are so deeply rooted in ourselves that we can no longer reduce them to silence for the sake of "fitting in". If you feel that PD is important in life, if you feel that evolution of the human consciousness can be achieved by people like you trying to raise awareness, than why be scared? It's a wonderful thing, don't worry so much about what other people have to say, if we all worried about that, there would be no progress. Good luck

I don't think the companies would care! As long as you are good at your job, they will hire you, who cares if you have a really really really successful blog? (Won't that actually increase your chances of getting noticed and hired?) And also, put your blog on your signature! I want to read it.

I'm with everybody else here. Start it. Do it. It sounds like you truly believe in your subject matter and if all of these personal development-type blogs are any indication, strong (or even extreme) views are anything but a hindrance. According to Internet Stats there are nearly 1.6 billion people online. Chances are some of them will be interested in what you have to say!

Your views didn't seem that extreme to me. But to be honest, two years ago I was afraid to buy a buddha statue for my patio because of what people might think. I literally hemmed and hawed for months. (Then it went on sale...so I was glad I waited. So I guess I can relate to that concept. Jennifer |

Yeah I am setting up the blog and everything right now. I thought about it and the only thing that is in the way is:
So I have to be courageous and tell my parents I approached 30 women a week for 1,5 years and solved all my questions about life and the universe. Because if it becomes popular. Someday they may find it in the internet. So I tell them before that. ~ And the next hindrance is career. But I dont think thats much of a problem. 3 years of college to go and I want to be self employed anyway. And I think they would hire me anyway ~ So no problem exists. But sorry for you I will write it in german. If it becomes popular I will translate the blog. Greetings |

I especially liked the Increased Productivity with Zen post. Forgive me my ignorance if google translated this wrong but the quote "Du bist nicht dein Gedanken" google translates to you are not your thoughts troubles me. Maybe it's me getting all metaphysical but I believe that your thoughts feelings and opinions are what make you, you. Skin, bone and muscle are similar, often interchangeable between people, it's the intangible aspects that define you. I'd like to know more about what you mean in this quote. I'd also like you to get a message board so I don't have to write about your blog on Steve's website. Sorry but the question intrigued me and I had to ask

Your thoughts arise from the surface you, the ego. Below that level is the quiet, still, spiritual you that's connected to the Source and beyond thinking. Your habitual thinking does make you uniquely you, but you might say it's your ego that needs you to even be unique. Beyond the ego, we're all connected to each other, the universe, the Source. I recommend reading "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle for a pretty in-depth view on this topic.

It is hard to describe but the words they are just sensations who come and go. So if you are still inside the words are not your master. If they say "this snake is poisonous" then the conditioning is helping you to stay alive. Your mind is doing a great job. The conditioning of your mind is very helpful but sometimes harmful IF you do not question yourself and your thoughts. But when your thoughts say for example "I will never earn money online" then you need to ask "why?" and there will come no answer. In the second case you will not follow your thoughts. So they are part of you but you are the master. ~ Concerning the website: I will make it english when I have time. Much more readers who speak english ! Maybe a forum is a good idea too. thank you!

Great writing HCG. Really. It flows naturally and comes across clean. It feels like you have been in touch with a lot of spiritual writings lately. Looking forward to your next posts.

Thank you for the feedback I almost deleted the blog this week ... But today I decided to just continue for fun ... ! Following my intuition. My mind wants to delete it but when I ask "why" it has no answer. So I changed it a bit and now it continues with the new headline: Self-Destruction for Abnormal People
