I am a great fan of Steve Pavlina and believe everything he says, which I believe is trusting my intuition. My question is, what is your opinion on this(that's a ryhme lol): should I trust myself or Steve(my intuition, in other words)? I'm already leaning on the intuition side, but could still change my mind. Oh and I'm not gay and I'd be proud if I were.

Actually, I think you should be a little skeptical of everything he says until you try it for yourself and see if it works for you. Never just blindly believe everything anybody tells you. So, yeah, always question what you are reading and focus on trying stuff to see if it works before you believe it.

@Aleksandr, if you blindly follow Steve (or anyone for that matter) you're putting your authority in him. I'm sure Steve doesn't want that responsibility, he's not the archetypical cult leader. The opposite, I'd say If you do want to believe everything in good faith, pick a nice religion. Less harm that way. |

Not that I don't appreciate your answers, but I believe every answer will be against trusting in Steve too much anyways.

What to trust? Use a combination of personal experience, what you read on Stevepavlina.com and your own intuition! Plus what I write on forums, I can be trusted! lol Steve Pavlina's a very clever guy, but he's not god (as far as I know) |

Even I don't believe everything I've said. If I did then I wouldn't be growing. Personal growth is an ongoing exploration, for myself just as much as anyone else. I'd rather see you become your own authority (see Chapter 5 in my book) than position me as an authority in your life. I can share my thoughts, realizations, and experiments along the way, but as others have stated, these ideas are not to be swallowed whole but rather to be used to help stimulate your own growth. I'm not here to teach you truth. I'm here to challenge you to discover truth for yourself.

Steve, this thread and several of Steve's followers remind me of this short scene in the Life of Brian YouTube - Life of Brian Monty Python

If Alexander there is just going to take everything Steve says at face value, he should convert to Christianity. They have that whole, "We'll do your thinking for you" mindset. "Don't think for yourself. Just take what I say as fact and accept it." No offense, but believing everything that someone says is just a way to turn off your own mind and let Steve do your thinking for you. Even Steve, as he says above, doesn't believe everything he's said.

Have you actually turned Steve into an archetype of your own intuition? (if you are wondering what an archetype is, the basic dictionary definition is as follows (to grossly summarize the idea that Jung talked about that is): a collectively inherited unconscious idea, pattern of thought, image, etc., universally present in individual psyches.) I'm asking based on this snippet of your first post: Quote:
If this is what you are asking, then I think that it changes the response a tad....if you require the use of an "outside" perspective to define what you are feeling internally, then I see no real problem with that. The only caution here, is, not to put him up on a pedastal. He is human, he makes mistakes, and all of his advice will not work all of the time with every person.

Yeah, y'all are probably right. I should probably think for myself. Plus Steve says so. So I did change my mind, great work guys. Btw Steve this is the best advice I've ever had from you.

Lol, sorry for stalking you Alexsander but your threads are so entertaining I too believe a lot of what Steve says. I guess it just resonates with me. That and I'm gullible - I tend to believe a lot of what I hear/read. I'm not sure what to do about this... I guess it balances out because I read lots of different opinions from different sources and since I can't believe all of them, I end up in the middle. So this past week I've been on Steve's blog quite a bit. I sent my mom a link to an entry about how to deal with annoying people - and my mom said that she doesn't like taking advice from someone who only had 7 months of experience in a regular job. I was like But yes, I will try to take him down from the God-pedestal |
