Default Steve, Have you climbed Turtlehead Peak?

A few years ago when I was on vacation in Vegas I found myself quite uninspired by the glitz and bustle of the City. Long story short, we wound up in Red-Rock Canyon staring up at the highest peak in the relative area, we later found to be named turtlehead peak. As its namesake suggest it looks like the face of a turtle coming out of the ground.

The reason I am asking you is because I found this to be one of the most exciting rewarding challenging afternoons I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

It is a great workout, a steep climb that can be accomplished safely without equipment.

Total round trip takes about 4 hours.

It is wonderfully peaceful and solitary.

We even saw a few native big horn sheep effortlessly click clacking along the rock ledges.

On the peak you are presented with the vast beauty and color of the desert, then seated farther down the valley you are juxtaposed with the Mechanical inorganic structures of downtown Las Vegas. All of this is punctuated with a peaceful silence that places you simply as the observer in this grand experiment.

It was a great experience for me, and I would recommend it if you are looking for a close to home challenge. Once you get to the top you cant help but ask questions regarding existence, reality, humanity, and what is truly important.

It was a grounding but inspiring experience that I still look back upon to this day.
