11:11? Glitch in the Matrix? Steve, you're 'crazy'. But, since your 'crazy' articles have helped me tremendously in the past, I guess I can give this process a try. Actually I've read something about 11:11 in the past, but I thought it was pure nonsense and it is not meant to be taken seriously. Come to think of it, last night, for some reason I decided to buy a bunch of candles, I never bought any candles before, but I really don't know why I bought it, it just that I feel I need to buy it. And, later that night, blackout! Didn't check the clock though. I was reading books last night. A long time ago, when I was eating inside a KFC, I noticed a man who wear a t-shirt that read "I'm waiting for my real life to begin." I thought it was funny at that time. But now... it all seem... strange. .... ... .. . I can't go back, can I? |

i cannot believe this. it captured my interest because i was born on November(11) then again cuz i was born on the 27 1+1+2+7=11. so i thought, "ok he was just lucky". but then i took out my licence number and it also added up to 11. then i looked at this letter on my desk from the college i am going to, and i looked at my id; it is 99979454=56. 5+6=11 ( i just removed the zeros and it added up to 11. this just boggles my mind. what is going on? |

I see 11:11 frequently on clocks, and smile when I do. I laugh a little when I see 5:55, because that turns up quite often too. However, I don't see these numbers turning up everywhere in my life. They are not stalking me, but seem more like friendly faces that stop by once in a while to say "Hi." Of course it was hilarious that I started reading the article at 11:11. |

Yet another 11-11 "skeptic" ............ I was very interested in 11-11 since I saw Steve's first mentioning about it long ago. I still want to experience that "backdoor virus". I warmly invite it in my life. But..... it just doesn't work!!! Not for me... The only thing about 11-11 I got is Steve's article. Well, thank you Steve, the article is really interesting. I hope it will help me to create more elevens in my life... Any advice? |

Well in my case I don't need to be skeptic even if I wanted too. I don't see any 11's anywhere even if I try. Except for my phone number, that was an 11 but I guess that's the exception that proves the rule. I even decided to look for the 11 at the bottom of Steve's site that was mentioned at the beginning of the article and by the end I'd forgotten about it. I'll go check it out right now! Yeah, there it is. I never scroll down to the bottom since here's a bunch of stuff I don't care about after the end of the articles. Ohh! Now I found another one, I have an msn buddy with status "Gamerscore: 10137" but the Firefox window hid everything but 137. The statistics are still weighing a lot towards non 11's. |

Another entertaining article from Steve which I enjoyed a lot. I don't think there is anything more to it than Benford's law, which I was vaguely aware of but thanks for making me read it up in more detail, and confirmation bias. I checked every number in easy reach and there are no 11s in my immediate vicinity. But I am happy being a skeptic, so perhaps the universe is telling me to stay that way. |

Steve's articles have definitely made me reevaluate many parts of my life, and helped me improve for the better. But occasionally he writes articles like this which are just off the map. A couple posters mentioned selection bias, which means you only remember "hits" and not "misses". A couple posters already mentioned Bedford's Law, which states that 1 is the most commonly occurring digit due to the logarithmic nature of the world. These things more than adequately explain re-occurring 1's. It is not some numerically masturbating Morpheus trying to wake you up. It. Is. A. Coincidence. You play with the numbers until they work, and if they don't you forget about it and try again later. EXAMPLE: How often does 11:11 appear during the day? Well it appears once every 12 hours. 12 hours * 60 minutes = 720. So if you look at a clock randomly during the day it's a 1 in 720 shot it will be 11:11. So yes, if every clock you encounter reads 11:11 chances are you are Neo and you can make the spoon bend with your mind. But some of you are doing stuff like adding the hours to the minutes, and then readding the digits and zomg it comes out to 11. If it is 3:08...3+8=**11** Whoa (ala Keanu Reeves) If it is 1:28...1+28=29. 2+9=**11** Whoa If it is 12:35...1+2+35=38. 3+8=**11** When do I meet Trinity There a ton of combinations like this. I did a simulation for these adding instances...(god help you people who so desperately want to enter the matrix that you are doing subtraction also)...and it comes out to 12.5% of the time you look at the clock you'll come up with 11. Not very uncommon at all. Look at the clock 8 times a day and it will happen once (and that will be the time you remember and write a forum post about). Not an intelligence beyond rational thought trying to connect with you. A property of numbers. Here is an experiment you can try. Pick 11 numbers from your life: Your zip code. Your phone number. Your parents phone. birthday+month. Social Security Number. etc. Add them all up. How many 11s? Probably at least 1. But definitely not all of them. If that one "hit" is a "backdoor virus", as Steve calls it, the other 9 are "misses" telling you not to give up on reality just yet. Which one do you listen to? Our mind is a pattern finding machine. But it is vital to our mental health to learn when there are no patterns. When you fail to do so you become a conspiracy theorist. You become insane. Steve more and more often paints contorting reality in a sexy light, but once and awhile you have to rationalize. Distortion of reality is how cult leaders attract followers and make them fanatical. It's what happens to cat ladies. So anyway. Hey Steve I need more material about your exploits in seduction...as you can tell I need a girlfriend. |

Steve, I've followed you willing through a lot of stuff I strongly disagree with because I appreciate your perspective and value your beliefs. But this is just sad... It's harmless, but attributing anything more than just enjoyable curiosity to such 'synchronicity' (of which any can be made: care to revisit any of your brutal religion bashing...?) is strongly indicative of an unstable framework to approach life from. But, as I've always found to be the greatest value from your website, more power to the people who find purpose, direction, and meaning in life regardless of their personal framework if it doesn't do (much) harm to others!

Do numbers just have strange properties I don't yet understand? I come up with 4's, 5's and 9's for everything. I've noticed that if you add the same number even if you sequence it differently the total seems to make the same number... For example, my birthday (4-21-1986): 4+21+1986= 2011; 2+0+1+1 =4, or 20+11=31 3+1=4 or 201+1=202, 2+2=4. 4+2+1+1+9+8+6 = 31; 3+1=4 4+21+19+86 = 130; 1+3+0 = 4 421+1986 = 2407; 2+4+0+7 = 13, 1+3=4. or 24+07= 31, 3+1 = 4 Is there a reason for this? Why does addition seem to work this way? No matter how I cluster the numbers within various strings I get the same divisible root total. Very confused. After filling out this post I seem to have figured out the addition pattern. Here are my life numbers: My SSN adds up to 58 and 4369. 5+8= 13, 1+3=4 43+69=112, 1+1+2=4 4+3+6+9=22, 2+2=4 My phone number with area code adds up to 49, 1903, and 1390 (the way I pronounce my number, xxx-xxx-xx-xx). 4+9=13, 1+3=4 1+9+0+3= 13, 1+3=4. or 19+03 = 22, 2+2=4 1+3+9+0 = 13, 1 + 3 =4, 13+90= 103, 1+3 = 4 or 10+3 =13, 1+3=4 My birth area code adds up to 27, 99, and 513. 2+7=9 9+9 = 18, 1+8=9 5+1+3=9 My current area code adds up to 23, 995, and 950. 2+3=5 9+9+5=23, 2+3=5 or 99+5 = 104, 1+4=5, or 9+95=104, 1+4=5 9+5+0=14, 1+4=5 or 9+50 = 59, 5+9=14, 1+4=5 My Drivers license adds up to 41, 10301, and 230. 4+1=5 1+0+3+0+1=5 or 10+30+1 = 41, 4+1=5, or 103+1=104, 10+4=14, 1+4=5 2+3+0=5 My credit card adds up to 58 and 341815. 5+8=13, 1+3=4 3+4+1+8+1+5 = 22, 2+2=4 or 34+18+15=67, 6+7=13, 1+3=4 Whats the deal with that? Seriously? Helllp my reality is being collapsed with numbers. Mathematicians? Statisticians? Shamans? I am now uh..confused. I don't quite get what practical application 11:11 has..it only comes twice a day. Nor do I get why the universe seems to have conspired to give me a lot of 4s...hmm..just realized 1+1+1+1=4. AHHHHHH. Edit... Great... I just figured out I am the anti-christ. Thanks Steve. Thanks numerology. Thanks Jebus. My name comes out to 6+6+6 6+6+6 = 18, 1+8=9. This is all a fun game, but people really shouldn't make decisions based on seeing a number on a clock. First of all, if all this sign business were real, who's to say 11:11 isn't your sign not to do something? Perhaps 11:11 isn't even your sign, but 11:12 is? Who's to say the Columbine shooters didn't see 11:11 on the clock before they went on their rampage? As horrible as this may sound, it's equally as possible as the chance that 11:11 is a magical wonder number. Go about your lives, enjoy 11:11 when you see it on the clock. Make a wish, do a dance, but for God's sake don't base your life on hocus-pocus. Personally, I make decisions when that little voice in the back of my head tells me it's a good idea. It's not the voice of a past life, it's not the voice or a psychic, and it's not the voice of God. It's the voice of my subconscious, of the sum of my good judgment and rational thought. Often times, it occurs well before an 11 might pop up. |

This 'phenomenon' can be explained by Benford's Law and Confirmation Bias So: - Statistically more 1's are present in sets of 'real life' numbers - If you start looking for 1's you'll see more 1's I didn't see a single statement in the article that explains why these two infinitely more likely explanations are invalid. Now, I love reading Steve's 'wacky' articles. It's interesting to hear other people's belief systems, even if I'd never subscribe to them. However, it's important to not cross the line and suggest that someone with a sceptical, science oriented belief system is any less 'conscious' or developed than someone who chooses to accept a whole manner of unproven pseudoscience and spiritualism. So I choose the Blue Pill Steve, but not your Option 1, this isn't a 'mental virus' it's just a provable statistical and psychological occurrence. I don't see why this would ever prove unsatisfying, unless I desperately want to see more than is really there. | |

I don't see any 11:11's. Though I am now unconsciously adding up ALL the numbers I see, I guess a lot of people are doing this now! Here's my experience, a little related... I've been dabbling in Magick for a couple of years now, after reading a lot of Grant Morrison's work. This is primarily doing "free style" rituals, for a desired result. I still can't make sense of it all, but here's what happened. I'd read about communicating with "gods", doing certain things, like ritual, to put myself in a state of mind where I can "talk" to these beings. I don't buy into spirituality so much, so I found a belief system that works for my purposes, which is..these communications are just connecting with different parts of my psyche for desired results. So since I am from India, I figured I should first try this with Ganesha, who is a popular Indian deity. He is known for wisdom and communication. So I just do a few deep breaths and visualize talking to him. I first say something nice, like praise you and your qualities, I think about things like communication and speed. Then I start talking to "him", ofcourse all the while thinking this is a load of rubbish. Then I go out later and start seeing Ganeshas EVERYWHERE, it was weird, but I just thought well it's India, what do you expect? It IS a little like Hogwarts here. I kept trying this a few times and funny thing happened. I wanted to "invoke" Ganesha before I did this important test. I was in the backseat of a car going to the exam, and I focused on Ganesha, once I was done I thanked him and as soon as I opened my eyes, there's a ganesha picture right out the window! That was a WHOA moment. The exam went extremely well, I am NOT an exam person, I hate them and get extremely bored. This was 4 hours long and I aced it, I got a top score. It felt like it wasn't me doing the exam, everything just clicked. So I moved to Melbourne few months back...and now here the chances of seeing a Ganesha pic or idol is very low. I did my focusing thing 3 times here and weird things happened. Once I was standing in the city and I finished my exercise and opened my eyes, and there was a shop called Elephant travels (Ganesha has an elephant head), another time I did this in class and I opened my eyes, the guy sitting in front of me took off his jacket and he was wearing a Ganesha t-shirt, that seriously freaked me out. The third time, I was doing some trance-dance focusing on Ganesha, the telly was left on...I finished this and looked up at the TV, the lines The Elephant Princess came on. Now I don't know what all this means, or even what to do with it. For me what dismisses skepticism is this, I didn't actively seek out the elephant theme or anything...they always pop up in front of me. Pure weirdness. If anyone is interested, look up "Grant Morrison Pop Magic" online. PM me to know more! So, my question is, what's going on and what should I do next?! I don't notice 11 much, however I always look up at see the numbers on the clock all matching, sometimes 11:11, sometimes 333 or 444...and many times I'll look up just on the hour, such as 12:00. I've always believed in the reality you always speak of, but other than the clock thing I haven't noticed many "signs" like that, but more often I do notice certain events that seem to happen which seem to comfirm what we are talking about here...I can't really explain what I mean by that, but I think that's the point. |

I posted on one of the other threads about 11.11 a short while ago, I have seen 11.11 for years now and yes was going slightly nuts about it, then tried it as my lucky number but that didn't work, then 5 years ago my dd was born on 11.11, and to present date keep experiencing 11.11 frequently, glad to know this is a good thing, just like a big wink from the universe OMG sorry to shout but just checked for my other post on 11.11 and I posted it on................................................ ......... 01-10 2009 1+10 = 11 and 2+9 = 11 add it up and check it out. Not sure how to post link to original post lol. What do you think Steve?? Last edited by azzyboo; 02-04-2009 at 10:06 AM. |

I've been seeing 11:11 for years... When I went into this forum I looked at the clock and it just turned 2:54... However, the number that has been following me around forever is not 11, but 9....everything in my life reduces to 9. Birthdays, my name, a whole bunch of stuff... One thing though..I always thought that 11 reduces to 2.... I could be wrong, but what if it's actually 2 that is your number and not 11. Lookup 2 in Tarot cards, does it tell you anything? 9 speaks to me a lot. |
