Is Steve Pavlina living a conscious life? Probably. But only a more conscious person can say that for sure. ....A.........B....................C.............. .D...................E............ A may think that B is the last letter, until one day, A reaches B and sees C. A will then feel very conscious. That will last until the day A reaches C and so on.... My point is; a person can never claim to be conscious at a certain moment. That moment is just one in a chain of perceptions of reality that will (hopefully) become more and more in tune, with the true nature of things, over time. In ten years you will know more than you do now. It might certainly be the case that you in ten years will say that you were really unconscious ten years ago. Beware! To live consciously is not a trifling matter. It may very well be that the person who doubts his own ability to "live consciously" and tell [conscious] from [non-conscious] is the one most conscious of all. |

Maybe the term "conscious" shouldn't be taken as a synonym for "enlightened" or "wise", etc. That might resolve a lot of confusion. To me, doing something "consciously" means doing something deliberately and knowingly, whilst hopefully being as aware of the consequences (positive or negative) as possible. It's definitely possible to consciously do things that lead to bad results. As for whether that would be a wise or enlightened action - quite possibly it's not. Or maybe it is. It depends. For instance, someone going on a hunger strike to protest oppression, etc. will suffer the negative consequence of starvation, but at the same time might be making a powerful moral statement that will change the world in a very positive way. Judging isn't really interesting. Concepts are there to allow you to do something. You don't have to proof to other people that you are conscious. We talk about being conscious or unconscious to be able to make decisions. If a certain decision seems to increase our consciousness we decide for that choice. |
