Hey Steve, I experienced similar symptoms while on Master Cleanse. The burping was especially hard to take. In my particular case the symptoms were due to parasites. You've been taking a detox product designed to draw out intestinal toxins; depending on what's in it, you could have upset some of your flora and are experiencing massive die-off. You might think about doing a liver flush or parasite cleanse. The liver flush (Hulda Clark's protocol) would do you wonders. |

I hope you begin to feel better. It's kinda scary to think how much toxicity was in you (a 100% raw foodist) and compare that to how much would be in someone like me (a SAD foodist).

Ginger is *amazing*. It really helps for nausea and digestive problems. What about a pribiotic supplement? It's entirely possible that, along with flushing out all the bad stuff, you're also flushing out the good stuff in your gut? |

All this supplement nonsense Just give the body some rest when digestion is not progressing. Supplements might get you through the boredom of not feeling well though Good health wished to you Steve. |

I've never done anything like a juicefest, but I used to drink about half a gallon of mango juice everyday (not made myself, just Maaza Mango Drink) for about 9 months. About 1 month ago, I noticed my stomach ached more and more after drinking this stuff, especially in the evening. It got so "bad" that the last two times, I experience a sense of sickness, just like described in your post. Constant gas-like pressure in the stomach and just feeling like I was sick and about to throw up. I stopped drinking this stuff (and any other juices) for now, since I guessed I had more juice than was good for me (and how much of "juice" are those juices anyway...). I was kinda surprised when you started mentioning the juicefest, thinking too myself, I guess I could never do that, since my stomach wouldn't take it (I have had a lot of allergies all through my life, and still have - and thought that it might be the reason for my stomach aches). But now you experienced "something" like this, I'm wondering if it has any relation. Any clue on if this is juice-related? And is it something you think will pass? In my limited understanding I've always thought juice would affect the acid-level of your stomach and that I've distored the balance, by taking too much in the last months. However, googling a bit right now, I find articles like "the myth of drinking too much juice", that say these ideas are no longer considered correct. What do you think? |

I have seen charcoal make alot of people sick. It is really good at binding to toxins but i have never seen anyone keep down 100 percent charcoal. In the field (ems field i mean), we treat some overdoses (for example asprin and other oral overdoses that are non caustic) with charcoal and i have never seen anyone keep it down. Usually it goes in and comes right back up. When we take them to the hospital, they put a gtub in them, pump their stomach full of charcoal and 10 to 15 minutes later they are barfing their brains out. It really does do a great job at binding to toxins so the body cant absorb them and they pass thru. Quote:

I'm feeling better this morning (Day 13), but I still a little queasy. I think I'll avoid the Intestinal Drawing Formula and the melon juice today just in case. I dropped 2 more pounds in the last 24 hours, so I'm down to 173.2 this morning. That's my lowest weight of the year. Erin just left for Phoenix for a weekend conference, so I'm alone with the kids until Monday. |

Hi Steve, I have to hand it to you for sticking with it this long. Talk about discipline. From personal experience, if I eat large quantities of watermelon or cantelope on an empty stomach, I get severe cramping. I don't know why, but it has happened to me often enough that I limit the quantities of those two fruits. I googled those symptoms with those two fruits, but to no avail. As far as the stress/depression go, I have read (and this is paraphrased and from memory) that low cholesterol/carbs/fat diets are linked to the particular mood symptoms you are experiencing. I think it has something to do with carbs/cholesterol regulating serotonin. I remember reading that one of the side effects of people on low-cholesterol diets was increased irritability and mood swings. I hope you don't weaken your system long-term by sticking this diet out for 90 days. Peace, Steve. I wish you well! |

I have a question: If you take a supplement or start a detox diet, and you start to feel bad, how do you judge if it's the diet itself that's making you feel crappy, or if it's the symptoms of detoxing? It seems like it would be hard to tell. Do you just follow your instincts? Are you inclined to believe it's more often one or the other? |

It's about 11am on Day 13 now, and I'm feeling fantastic -- physically, mentally, and emotionally. My appetite for juice has returned, and I'm presently loving my latest concoction -- carrot, celery, apple, beet, pomegranate, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, parsley, fennel, ginger, lime juice. It's loaded with greens, but it's also super sweet and delicious. I made 5-1/2 quarts of juices this morning, which took more than 90 minutes, so I'm prepped for the whole day now. I put lots of ginger in these juices, so hopefully that will keep my stomach from going kittywompus today. |

Ai chihuahua! You're on a roller coaster, aren't you! I'm so glad you're feeling better. Maybe that was just the last of the concentrated evil leaving you once and for all.

Just be careful about "kittywompus". If you overuse it, it becomes less potentially hilarious. I recommend no more than 3 kittywompuses a month per person.
