I'd imagine that putting coffee in your rump might have that effect.

Rozalind Gruben: Social and Emotional Aspects of Eating

I'm really enjoying this video

Thank you for posting it amyor
I believe that this is Dr. Doug Graham's wife (Author of 80/10/10 Diet). Not sure if Gruben is a typo or that's her maiden name.

Does the way you eat align well? I understand you share your experiment with others, and have a lot of people online supporting you, but is it possible the void you've created is one of communion/connection? Would sharing more meals with people in person will make you feel better. I remember you saying how disconnected you felt going raw, is juicing having an even larger impact? I remember you seemed happy during your raw trials when the family started adopting your foods, and deprived when the scent of pancakes wafted through the air, probably the sounds of your family laughing at the table and your wife making pancakes. Are you craving cooked vegan foods because thats what your family is eating? Is sharing the actual food you eat as important as eating the food or sharing the act of eating?

As a social creature by nature, is it possible you are actually lonely and this is the void? Eating alone, Juicing alone in the morning, It all seems so utilitarian, where is the love?

Perhaps there is a medium problem, doing all of this online. You pushed the boundary on how much you could share online, pictures, weight, drew the line at the bathroom door. With an internet community this large, someone could easily design an e-cafe where juice feasters or raw vegans could share a meal over the web. Or find yourself a webcam based chatroom. Finding a way to share a similar meal with people is important, maybe that could help bring a stronger sense of communion into your life. Maybe invite Matt Monarch for juice online one afternoon

However, if I am raw for a while and then drink a bunch of pasteurized orange juice I definitely feel the difference in comparison to freshly pressed orange juice. I get out of touch with my body and into an addictive state, so in my experience there is a difference. I don't know if this is true for the whole spectrum of foods, probably not and there are probably a lot of other causes that make 'cooked' foods addictive. Following your argument, there may be an added substance to the pasteurized orange juice that cause the addictive effect.
One difference between pasteurized and unpasteurized is that the heating process may kill off bacteria and destroy enzymes that will aid in digestion of the food. Anyone well attuned and practiced at listening to their body will feel the difference. But I struggle with seeing how it is addictive. A healthy person should feel disinclined to consume what does not make them feel good. Not the opposite.
