If avocados fit into the juice plan (I can understand why they wouldn't since they're not particularly juicy... but it's worth a shot), they make excellent shakes. A Brazilian fellow I worked with about ten years ago made me an orange juice, mango, and avocado shake that was fantastic (haven't forgotten it yet!). Then I found out lots of other cultures (esp. southeast Asia) are big on them, too (chocolate avocado shakes are popular and also tasty, and I'm sure you can finagle some sort of raw version of this). Obviously, it'll add a lot of bulk to your juices, but I can imagine from what you've already been making that it'll taste rather good (avocados also play well with ginger and lime!). It would add some of the fat that you seem to be needing; perhaps it might absorb better, too, than just straight up oil.

I have had alot of dry skin issues. I have no idea what my fat intake is, but most of it comes from avacados, concnut and flax. I found raw organic concnut oil topically really helps me. Literally before i take a shower, after body brushing, i coat myself in it. Even my hair and scalp and lips. ANd i usally then put on gloves and shorts and sit down and read or mess around on the internet for an hour then i take a shower. I do this once a week and then (since my hands are worse), i put some on my hands a couple times a day, and it works really well for me. I got the idea from the book Amazon.com: The Coconut Oil Miracle (Previously published as The Healing Miracle of Coconut Oil): Bruce Fife, Jon J. Kabara: Books and it took a couple times, but it really helped me. Thanks for all the updates Steve! Adrienne |

Forgot to mention I also put Squalane on 2 times a day. This has really helped too. I love it. You want to be careful tho, most people get it from shark livers.. yuck. There are a couple places that make it from olive oil. for example Fitoderm Squalane by The Chemistry Store.com Inc The first time i tried it, i put 5 drops on my face before bed. When i woke up, my face felt 5 times softer and not as dry as it usually did. I started using it every day. works wonders. I put it on my hands now as well. Adrienne |

Hi Steve, I recently read that dry skin is not only a fat issue, but also an omega issue. Make sure you're getting enought omega 3s, 6s, and 9s. Good luck! Thanks for undertaking this experiment so I don't have to. |

Can't say to much about the dry skin, seems others are already chirping in with advice, the smell from your bowel movements will likely continue until they become nearly all liquid. Strange as it would sound to anyone that hasn't experimented with their eating habits but what you can purge on a juice fast is rather amazing. If juice feasting is anything like what I tried you're sleep will probably scale down as your energy level goes up when you get near the end of your detox. |

I would definitely up the fat intake. Fat is an essential part of any diet and if you juice fruits and vegetables without adding any fat, it will cause not just dry skin, but more problems. Maybe use more oils and coconut meat. It's hard to figure out what to eat for fat because you can't eat. You just drink juice. Try and find the fattiest juicy fruit/vegetable. Maybe that will help. You're in unchartered territory as it comes to most people. Maybe flax seed oil?

You can juice yams, yes. I am including various supplements and superfoods each day, but I'm not listing those on my daily updates. For the most part, I'm following the juicefeasting.com protocol, so that info is already available online. One of the items I'm taking is Healthforce Nutrionals Intestinal Drawing Formula, which includes such delectable items like bark, clay, and charcoal -- and tastes about as you'd expect. It's designed to draw toxins from the intestines and take them out of the body, so they aren't reabsorbed. This is basically a substitute for doing a psyllium-bentonite cleanse. I'm drinking some pineapple, coconut water, raspberry juice now, which is super sweet. |

Interesting stuff. Steve, do you think you could drink pure green juices one day? Could you stomach it? I'm sure eventually you could just move towards 100% greens without need for much if any fruit. Have people done that? What has occurred? |

Veggie juice, however, is much higher in minerals than fruit juice.

Obviously every locale will differ, but it's probably impossible to provide a cheap efficient diet that will work everywhere, or even in a majority of places.

I have always had a moderate problem with dry skin. Within the last 4 months or so I discovered virgin coconut oil. I use it topically take from 1 to 3 table spoons of oil a day. When I first started taking it internally I had a noticeable improvement in my dry skin within two days. I recommend starting slowly and build up to a max of 3 to 3.5 table spoons as it has an affect on digestion. If dry skin is a problem this could be very helpful. I have also used it on my hair and it makes it very soft and smooth. I find I prefer olive oil though because I am blond and coconut oil makes my hair darker.
