I remember reading from the 48 Laws of Power, that Dostoevsky used the strategy of gambling all his money after making a successful book (an extreme form of burning the ships strategy), in order to spark an extremely strong inspiration, creating an environment of needing to fulfill a desperate void. Looks like Steve's using a more intelligent version of that strategy here.

I'm glad this move feels good to you. Personally, I don't even see the ads -- my eye just filters them out.

Wow.

I'm impressed.

I had never understood why you wanted the ads off in the different forum posts where you had mentioned your intention to get rid of the ads. However, after having read your posts, it make complete sense.

I am amazed with your decision. It's really a bold decision and one needs lot of courage to take this kind of decision. I wish you all the best for finding your future income sources. I am confident that you would find it very soon.

Interesting you did this now. Just a few days ago, I noticed an ad for what looked like a pretty racy, Asian dating site that looked borderline escort service-ish. I wondered, "how does this resonate with Steve and his message?" when I saw it. Then just a few days later, you decide they're gone.

I commend you for the strength you have to do this.

This is funny. A few hours after I posted this, I checked the mail and got over $6K worth of checks. They were expected to arrive around this time, but I think it still counts as a nice alpha reflection.

Last time I checked, $100K possesses no creativity. It's just a number.

I only had to go $9 in the hole to create this entire website. But somehow I don't think the $9 would have been able to do this on its own.

And yes, I know what you really meant, but I don't see money as that important of a resource for the path I'm on. Things like inspiration, energy, and relationships are far more important resources.

I don't. However, I think it will be fun and challenging to explore new, more heart-centered ways of generating an even stronger flow of abundance, financial or otherwise.

I honestly would have said keep the ad's and use that money to hire 2 passionate growth orientated employees who can help you grow the business and spread the word.

There's only so much one person can do, now that you have a great amount of income coming in you should work it towards leveraging the efforts of others as well as technology to help make the world a better place

I mean I'm the same as you when it comes to material possessions, they bring very little joy. Just that money is power and gives you the ability to make even greater changes to the world.

It's sort of like taking money from the big bad corporations then reinvesting that money in making a difference in the world.

Although on the the other hand it is selling things people don't need and most of the adsense ads are selling false hopes and dreams, the opposite of conscious growth.

I think some of you are missing a really important point...

The $8K+ monthly income Steve is losing from Google will soon be replaced with income from more inspired partnerships that reflect his beliefs and philosophy.

@Steve - Congratulations on dropping the Adsense ads. It will free up some of the real estate on your site for some great stuff TBD. Frankly, I'm more interested in checking out stuff you recommend anyway.

-Tim

Your PageRank is only 3, which is way lower than it should be. I know it used to be 6 or 7. With the text link ads gone, it might be going back up.

Well, I see no difference at all since I've been using adblock plus for years...

I'm guessing those $100k monies are mostly from low awareness people. I mean who in their right mind would click on ads if they're strong and healthy? Even me who's weak and has a bit of emotional problems don't even consider clicking on ads...

So I think it's very good that you removed them as they were only feeding on the poor.

Congratulations on achieving what you had set out for. This is one more feather in your cap. It is indeed a brave decision. I most striking this in this article was that you had to refer back to the 'Courage' chapter to take a call on this.

Well I can't say I was surprised. But wow...what courage...I mean...I couldn't do that. I couldn't give up the equivalent of £50,000 a year...No way. Not where I am right now. Maybe someday...

Default Such a Courageous decision

As other people commented, sometimes I didn't even notice the
advertisement because my attention was focused in something more
important: your content! I as well use different techniques to remove
the ads, block content by Opera, rss feeds reading, and even print
preview reading.

However, sometimes in the page you could see those
awkward links which seemed just from another sphere.

This is why, even if you cut this money stream, I think in the long term
you are gonna probably get much more money than those 100K, even if
this isn't anymore your main driving force. Simply and mainly
because you are gonna be much more trusted. I trust in you now much
more. If you wanna give the message to "stay conscious", this doesn't
resonate at all with ads that distract you. And if this happens, of
course you are gonna have people who believe you are just but another
help author sucker.

Really, I am amazed today. I wish you all the abundance you
want. Thanks for alerting me to stay conscious. You've been such a big
help in difficult moments.

:-)

I had a dream last night, where my dad was trying to stab me with a giant sword, I wasn't lucid and I kept trying to go through the wall to get away, I knew I could go through walls, but I didn't know it was a dream so I failed to get through.

When you realize you are in a dream, and that you can do and have anything, you become very powerful - that is if you are gullible enough to believe it. You can't have anything you want if don't allow yourself to be gullible, play along and start to believe "I can do anything", truely you will know when the belief is internalized in because as Steve has said, you truly will stop fearing life. You aren't playing along when you shy away because of fear, you lose your relaxed state, and become blind to the many wonderful things around you. People are very hard on themselves...

This all makes sense when you finally experience the state, learn to love yourselves kids.

Steve you are an example for us all, and I love you.

From the Blog...
Quote:
I don’t want to generate income in a manner that makes me feel disconnected.
I have felt something similar to this for a while. How can I sell cigarettes and beer when I myself don't use or buy them? Now, how do you balance necessity with connection?

Steve, I thank you for holding true to your values and setting a high bar for the rest of us. You are an example for the rest of us. If you can do it, I believe I can to. I may not know, but I'll find it.

I do my best not to balance them at all. Balance is either-or -- it's compromise. I'm looking for solutions that are AND.

This means that if I run into a situation where I must choose between feeling connected and achieving financial abundance, I eject from the whole situation. It's a dead end. It's a path that would force me to leave either my head or my heart behind, so I can reject the whole thing out of hand.

Then I turn around and look for a new path which can lead to feeling connected and abundant at the same time without incongruencies.
