Many articles or discussion topics on this website make reference to the "Oneness" mindset - viewing yourself as one with humanity. I don't necessarily disagree with this concept - it idealistic and comforting to think about - but I see examples all around that make it difficult to swallow. So far as I can tell, the vast, vast majority of people (in my society anyways) have a painfully low level of "awareness". This harms me directly, because collectively millions of cogs working together produce output that I consider destructive. What are the mindsets of people who work for and lead a massive pharmaceutical company (or CitiBank or Pepsi or MTV...) for instance? Like it or not, such institutions have ready access to the levers of power in society. Look at the types of careers society pressures people into; those who have never experienced being "wealthy" (as in lots of money) are willing to sacrifice years of their lives in order to reach this status they faithfully believed will be all they imagined. Their daydreams are fueled by toxic mass media personalities living the "good life" - you can drive a very comfortable car, live in a big house, and adorn your body with very valuable rocks - and bombarded with constant reminders of why they need a vehicle with 500 hp to navigate through gridlock via the TV (keeps the minds nice and numb as well). It is appalling, but I believe that is a sober and accurate description of what is happening to society. It's possible I'm wrong, overstating the problem, or missing something, but if you agree with the general picture I've painted, how can you endorse the "oneness" mindset? With such a huge amount of mind control going on all around, it is hard to feel at one with the herd. I am at present trying to slay some personal demons of my own - and believe their presence may be related to some disequilibrium within myself and my beliefs. So any criticisms/comments on what I have expressed here are greatly appreciated. |

While it is true that many people operate at a lower level of consciousness, it doesn't change the fact that in reality we are all consciousness experiencing life. You are one with the consciousness of life, not with its egoic factors (biological tricks to keep us breeding). If you communicate and commune with the non-physical parts of life it can be very receptive Edit: Actually I guess you may be connected to ego as well, I suppose its important to remember to connect to the non-egoic nature of life, and modify your ego to be as loving, powerful, and truthful as possible.
