Lena Carpenter will become famous soon enough
Default Found my life purpose. What now?

I did the 20 minute purpose finding exercise from one of Steve's articles. After three sessions, each about a half an hour long, I found a purpose that made me cry: To teach people to connect with and to be true to their Divine self. Wow, that is some HIGH purpose, and I have difficulty visualizing how I'm going to implement it. Before that, I picked a purpose statement in a more intellectual way: To heal and empower by channeling my true spiritual identity in all areas of my life. Now, based on this purpose, how do I go about choosing an actual career? It seems so incredibly general, that I could literally do anything and to still be doing it.

Did anyone else go through this process of applying their general purpose to real life? I would love some examples!

Thanks!

you might have to make seminars, using your methods to connect with your divine self.
First you have to make sure you connected and things like that.

May i say thats a cooll purpose, and i would like to take your classes when you done, its something i struggle with, i hate my divine self- jerk- never been there for me.

I have the same struggle. I did a guided life-purpose meditation (I can send you the mp3 if you want it) and ended up with "love" in the end. Ummm...could the Universe be a little more specific? I guess not. I too took it to mean service to otherselves, and since I'm looking to change careers decided to apply it to eventually being a counselor.

But it also occurred to me that in my current situation I often lay a little of what I've learned on people I meet and get to know a bit, always while gauging their ability to accept whatever wisdom I can impart. I also use not only words but my attitude. I find this extremely rewarding and fantasize that perhaps the seeds I plant will go on to help them in some way.

So, I don't think that life's pupose necessarily points to one certain job or vocation or career. It's ideal to be able to do what you like to do, but if you can't do that for a while, it's still possible to be of service in the most mudane situations.

Good luck to you.

you can just do your purpose for 30 mins a day if you want, you dont have to make it a full time thing.

Anna, your blog is very helpful indeed! Actually, I read it before doing the Life Purpose exercise, and it helped in understanding what I'm looking for better. I think self-esteem is a key for me as far as living my life purpose. It is also a part of my purpose, empowering other people, and helping them to really believe in themselves, from that inner source. In order to do that, perhaps, I have more work to do in my own life on that topic. Ironically, while sometimes not recognizing worth in myself, I can see other peoples' strengths very well.

Supertom, you make some excellent points, and thanks for a tip on making seminars I'm in school right now getting my degree, and I'm about to pick my major. So far I'm really drawn to psych, even though my ego (as are other people) keep warning me it's a really impractical major.

I also do that. I guess the next step is to figure out a way to do it more efficiently and full-time.

Good luck to you as well!

Default A couple other ideas...

Hi

Have you read Martha Beck's Finding your own North Star?
Also, try affirmations such as:
"I have several creative ideas and options for fulfilling my life purpose"

Bye,
Juliet

I feel compelled to answer this question with a question that might assist you with an answer:

How do you offer your love and light into the world, to teach others to connect and be with their Divine self?

It's almost the same question as "what's my purpose?" but it has a different feel to it. Instead of being heady and intellectual, the question I post is has a more ... radiant "life-giving" feel to it.

Consider working with this question as the next question to ask.

Your life purpose is something you do all the time, even if you're just talking to someone in the street. Your life purpose isn't your career, it's your life purpose. I can think of a ton of careers like what you just mentioned. You could be a therapist, a religious leader, a teacher, a non-profit director, a film maker, etc.

Yes, life purpose doesn't lead to a specific career direction. For others, who might be interested, I'm reading a book, called A Passion Test, that I found in a local metaphysical library. It gives a very simple way to clarify your top passions. I found that my life purpose is actually a unifying theme for my top passions. For example, I will soon start studying for my teacher yoga certificate. I have no idea if that is my main career goal, but it's compatible with my purpose and some of my passions, such as physical fitness and exploring different levels of consciousness. Surprisingly, one of my passions turned out to be building a business. I thought maybe one of the top five should be healing or therapy, taking into account my life purpose. My point is there are different ways to express your life purpose, and the most important marker I found is your passion or what you enjoy and what you are drawn to.

The Essential Missing Half of Getting Things Done

I like the how steve has a mission statement on his purpose, "My mission statement takes my high level purpose and breaks it down into the different areas of my life: physical, social, mental, career, spiritual, etc"

try using the techniques in Feeling Blessed

imagine things that let you live on purpose and excites you.

That is a great life purpose Lena.

First when I found out what my life purpose is I realized that somehow it was deep within me all my life and recognized that the signals were coming all the time but I just did not listen or I was afraid to follow at the time... When I had those few lines of powerful text in front of me I tried to "manage" it first, I tried hard...and it did not work. So I let go a bit, I stepped back and I just enjoyed that I know my purpose and it will guide me eventually. I deeply believed that. Then the answers started to come: real life applications of my purpose, synchronicities, right people, strong feeling that something took over my life and things are getting easier and more exiting...

I was looking through some old threads of mine and found this one. How great to be reminded of my purpose! So my "real life" application of this purpose turned out to be doing intuitive readings, no surprises there. I think I could apply it in more "down-to-earth" industries as well, but my main area of interest was always in spiritual and metaphysical subjects. Looking at this specific purpose that I wrote down, I'm reminded to apply myself more in the area of teaching people to connect to their own guidance in the process of giving intuitive readings, instead of playing a role of fortune teller.

For some reason, this avenue of expressing my life purpose seemed very elusive and I would never even think of it. Things really had to change and open up in my life for me to start doing the readings. I think self-confidence was a big piece of the puzzle. You gotta have some of them in order to tell a complete stranger about their life I have to say, the general idea of my purpose really guided me over the last two years. It's definitely one helpful exercise.
