I was thinking the other day how great it would be if he made his own Youtube channel, it would get so many subscribers.

DVDs and Youtube channels are both great ideas. I hope he does venture more into video. I was also thinking of a twitter to keep his viewers up to date on projects rather than resorting to big blog posts.

Doing everything has no value.
At the moment the name of the game for Steve is getting a successful author and getting his book launch right.
Steve will probably do more video in the future (if you use the search function you should find a few posts in this forum about that), but at the moment the book is more important.

I myself don't really see any advantage to video over podcasts.

The only exception is if he is giving a speech to a live audience.

I dunno that it's either/or. For example, some YouTube videos that incidentally promote the book (like his Purpose of Life blog post) would be a win-win.

Video would be awesome. More senses and modalities for his message to come across.

Look at his recent blog post on energy and diet. I'm sure he'd have the energy to. I wonder, however, if his interest lies there. If he did make video, what would the consequences be in all areas of his life? I wonder if he'd be ready to handle that.

For example, I can imagine more people knowing his appearance and then stopping him on the street. Like a celebrity, privacy may be harder to come by.

We'll do something with video eventually. We don't even have a camera yet. If anyone has a recommendation, we're open.

I'm all for the video idea, especially a YouTube channel. And I agree that this could add to promoting the book - and in a way that connects to people on a more personal level. Paulo Coelho, brazilian author, does video all the time and this helps promoting his books, among other things. The way he chooses to do it also encourages interaction with readers - which might not be what Steve wants necessarily, but it's just an example of how other authors use video to connect to readers on a more personal level and to promote new books.

I also think there is a difference between podcasts and video. Podcasts are more expressive than text and videos are more expressive than podcasts.
