Steve gives great content for free and i think if he wasnt making anything from it he should have a donate botton but whats the point when the site is doing so well?

I have donated to people who make way more money than me. If he provides good content, and you feel like donating, why not donate? Who cares how much he makes?

I guess, if you see it as a way of showing how much you enjoy there content. But I was seeing it from the way that some sites rely on donations, Its kinda like going to a big store buying somthing and insted of putting the change in the charity pot that is right there giving it to the store insted..

Why not? Is there a particular income threshold at which you're morally obligated to stop asking for donations?

Didn't I read somewhere that Steve had so many people emailing him asking how they could donate money to him that it was finally less work to just put the donation button up than to keep responding to the emails?

Angela is correct. People kept wanting to send Steve money to pay him for the value he gave them that it was easier to just put a donate link on the site rather than answer individual emails.

Steve is nothing short of a Role Model. I am in awe of him. I am whole heart-edly going to support his work by referring his site to all my contacts. This would be my donation for the value he has provided to me.
