Question Polyphasic Sleep: Steve, please answer

I read your blog and sent you three questions, but I think I used the wrong return E-mail address. Anyway, could you answer my four questions?

1. What is the effect of rigorous physical activity (e.g., gym, sex...) on polyphasic sleep? Do you get excessively tired?

2.If you don't have a flexible schedule, does biphasic sleep work (1.5 hours long, once every 12 hours)?

3. Is it wrong to use caffeine during the first difficult week of getting used to this new sleep cycle?

4. I have read that polyphasic sleep does not work when one is trying to carry out overtly intellectual activities: studying physics, differential equations, organic chemistry... Did you have ANY such experiences when you were practicing polyphasic sleep and what was your impression? Please be honest here. If you were not studying science, just say so.

Thank you very much. I really hope that you can answer my questions in a timely manner (or if anyone else in here already KNOWS the answers because they have asked Steve or have done it themselves, please tell me).

Polyphasic sleep is being discussed quite actively in the Health and Fitness section of the forums. You will probably find answers to your questions there.

Steve does not normally respond to messages directly addressed to him on these forums.

He does talk about in his blog post that poly sleep schedule did not affect his workout or physical activity level. He also mentions that he had no problem, after he was fully adapted, with reading or studing difficult topics. He does not mention what he was studing.

Steve also addresses coffee and such in the sence that he does not drink it and he thinks that that helped him be able to switch sleep types.

Steve basically said it took a couple weeks for him to feel back to normal, and about a month for him to feel better then normal.

Also i agree with Wandering Oak.. there is alot of talk about polyphasic sleep over in the health forum. Many people are expermenting with it as well over there.

Thanks. I have posted in the section as well. As long as someone has tried it, I can get correct answers. It's just that Steve has succeeded for sure and his opinion would be valuable. Some people do try it for a few weeks only and it's not sufficient data to provide correct informartion.

I think you will find lots of people who have tried it are willing to answer your questions. Alot of people are very interested in that topic (understandable it is interesting). I would like to try it myself and am just waiting until i have 5 days in a row with little to do which is proving very difficult. but i know i will get to try it in the next couple months.

I would seriously like to know what the effects of learning are when you polyphasic sleep. I read on some sites that other phases are required for learning -- Something about ram and hard disk drives.

There was someone at the Yahoo group who's grades in school didn't change after changing to polyphasic sleep. If you agree that grade more or less objectivly measure learning, the conclusion would be that polyphasic sleep doesn't have negative effects on learning.
Also nobody how adepted to polyphasic sleep feeled subjectivly that his learning ability suffered from it.
