Default Inability to edit some posts?

For some reason I can only edit some of my posts.

eg. this post has an edit button for me but this post in the same thread doesn't.

Is anyone else having this problem?

You can edit for sixty minutes (to keep people from changing posts after they have already been replied to.)

When did that come in? It seems like a step backwards.

I often tidying up my posts in arrears - not to change the meaning, just to express things more clearly.

[EDIT] I also have a potential blog article I'm working on that I was tidying up based on people's input in the thread. Now I can't edit that post to do so.

Actually, that's not true. The first post in this thread is still editable for me and I posted it 8 hours ago.

Anyway, wouldn't it make more sense just to make the edit history viewable? It already tells readers that an edit has been made...

Halve a year ago or so.

Saving the edit history doesn't seem to be a feature of this forum software.
Is there a plugin to do that task?
