A lot of the symptoms you are experiencing going back to cooked food are typical reactions of someone with food intolerance. An elimination diet, sometimes called a "FAILSAFE" diet removes all artificial and natural food chemicals from the diet, allowing you to safely test individual food types to see what you react to. The diet was developed by the allergy unit at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia, so it's not "another crazy diet". You might want to start by reading the introduction to "Friendly Food" ("Allergy Friendly Food" within the US), and follow links to the rest of the site: Food Intolerance - RPAH Allergy Unit This site is also about the RPAH elimination diet, although you may find it a little preachy: Food Intolerance Network However there is a fair amount of information on there, although most of the brand-specific stuff is Australian. You might be shocked to find that the elimination diet removes all fruit! (with one very specific exception). Also you can do it Vegan although it would be pretty restrictive (but probably not nearly as restrictive as a raw-vegan diet!). Of course, you could be just getting a cold! But the above is worth checking out none the less! Last edited by Ezza; 02-02-2008 at 01:22 PM. Reason: I forgot the last line! |

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm feeling a little better today. My fever was up to 103.2 yesterday. Now it's down to 100.4. All I ate yesterday was an apple, 2 clementines, and 2 bananas. I'll probably stick with raw foods today as well. For some reason cooked food doesn't seem as appealing as it once did. |

Glad to hear you're feeling better, Steve! I followed your raw food trial with great interest (and considerable gladness I didn't have to do it myself ;-)). It was fascinating to see the sheer volume of fruit you needed to eat. And yes, it was odd not to have a post from you yesterday -- I'd grown used to a new set of photos and observations every day. Looking forward to seeing what you write next. Best, Ali |

My first post.. oOo! Hello! First I want to congratulate you on the completion of your trial! I stumbled across this today, on day 7 of my own 30 day raw food diet (first trial). I'm taking a slightly different approach, making my breakfast and lunch "monomeals" and only combining foods/eating raw (preferably sprouted) nuts or seeds/fatty foods for my evening meal. I went straight to this from an unstrict carb-heavy vegetarian diet. There have been hard moments in this transition, but so far it is really making me appreciate the simplicity of individual foods. With a very simple raw diet, I find myself with a couple hours a day that I previously spent cooking food free for reading, playing outdoors, meditation... I could really get used to this! I would like to thank you for going into such detail, I have read a few days of your experience so far and will work my way through a large portion of the rest. You seem to do lots of research which is great, as one of my goals with this experiment is to find really harmonious food combinations. It is also nice to know that the tough spots are shared. Finding the balance for each of us and our personal lifestyle takes a bit of time and testing! Get well soon! With love, Neko |

I always get similar cold-like symptoms when eating too much wheat/grain based foods. By that I mean rice, pasta, and bread. I have allergies (not food allergies but Hay Fever and the like) and they all but disappear when I stay away from those foods. Then, sure enough, as soon as I give in and have a big plate of pasta I start feeling the effects soon after. Why not try easing back into cooked food without the grains and see how you feel? I would also recommend adding more fat to help clear up that dry skin and those pimples if you still have them. |
