Default Steve's Book

Hi All,

What about Steve's book? He hinted upon making one in several articles but I've been unsuccessful in finding any reference, much less an actual preview or price tag, on the site.

I'm really interested in it, though!

Thanks!

Due to lead times in book publishing, it won't be on the shelves until late 2008. It will be a print book sold in mainstream bookstores and online.

The tentative title is Personal Development for Smart People.

I'm still finishing it up, but I'm really pleased at how it's turning out. The book allows me to build a complete framework for personal development from high-level principles to practical application, which is something I haven't been able to provide through the medium of blogging.

I'll be sure to announce the release date once I know what it is -- the exact release date is up to the publisher, but it's tentatively October 2008.

Wow! I hope this will be available via some kind of webshop that ships to Hungary, too - I'm not too much into personal development, but Steve's webpage is the first that really has a consistent ideology behind it that I can sympathize with. It's pretty much a superset of my own system of thought, with very little that I disagree with (main points of inconsistency are the existence of intention manifestation, and psychics - but I'm still reading into the material about these subjects).

Congratulations!!! The blog has been SO helpful to me, & I know beyond doubt that the book will be a success.

This may just be a semantic difference, but I found your site more useful the other way round - leading from practical application to high-level principles.

The advantage of understanding the high-level principles is that you can apply them to novel situations you've never encountered before.

Oh, very much agreed and I certainly wouldn't suggest excluding them. Just discussing them after the more basic skills.

In your own life, judging from your articles, you first mastered skills like self-discipline, courage, time management, getting up early etc. before you were ready to absorb bigger picture principles like the malleability of personal beliefs (something that I imagine took a lot of courage and self-discipline to try at first!).

The blog archive serves as a clear record of this progression, and I doubt that there are short cuts to the process.

You're in a place beyond those basic principles now, but to those who aren't already at your level (like me!), your principles sound awesome, but not something that meaningfully connects with our daily existence.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the book and sorry to hear it's so far away...

Woohoo! I'm going to buy me 6 copies!

Not really.

I'm looking forward to it though. The blog has been invaluable as have the forums. It would be good to take some dead treeware on the train with me though.

Yup, there's a whole chapter on SD, and the 30 day trial concept is certainly in there too.

Finally!

For a while, I thought the Blog (or Internet) would simply be your medium.

People love free stuff on the web (i.e. wiki) and people like to own books.

I can hardly wait.
