There's no explanation, lol. They will say that you create everything, and that the past is just in your head; everything that is, is in the present moment, being created by you. This is a religion, in my opinion. If you want to believe it, close your eyes and jump right in the pool of crazy ideas. Faith is all it takes to believe it, as much as it takes to believe in the christian God or in Allah or Krishna |

Actually by assuming SR you are assuming less. Why should I take on faith that reality exists beyond my ability to perceive it subjectively? Isn't it more "religious" (a poor use of the word btw) to believe that there is a reality 'out there'. As far as explanations go, because the present is the point of experience the 'past' must be consistent with this moment and not the other way around. The past is what would have had to happen for things to be the way they are now. I don't see how you can change something that doesn't exist, I think what Steve meant was that the past only exists in your thoughts and you have control over those thoughts...but I'm not quite sure. No, it doesn't take faith to understand and believe in this. Just takes a little extra thought. What he's saying is: The past only exists in our memories. We can influence the past by what we're doing in the present. Isn't what you do today going to be the past tomorrow? Isn't what you're doing now going to be in the past an hour from now? By acting now, you change what you percieve to be the past. If you workout today, you're going to be sore tomorrow. If you don't work out today, you're not going to be sore tomorrow. Therefore, by choosing to workout or to not workout you're choosing what you're past will be. If you chose to workout today, than, a couple of days from now, you can reflect on how sore or tired you were (in the past). I'm sorry I can't explain it much better than that. |

I'm not so sure about changing the past, but we can certainly change our interpretation of it.* I don't mean just deciding to feel okay about past mistakes, for example, but instead by making our "todays" as good as possible. Whatever path I have taken to get to where I am now, if I am happy now, then I have to be okay with that path. After all, it led me to my current happiness. *And since our interpretation is all we really have of the past, if we change that, it could be said that we have, in fact, changed the past. |
