This process is a lot like mind-mapping, but instead of scribbling it down it's more "thought" oriented. I like the idea. But... Some people are more visual than auditory (when I use a process that's very similar to how Steve describes it, I actually "hear" suggestions). Those who are more visual may have a higher degree of success if they actually put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). For instance, when Steve writes, Quote:
Point is, I know for a fact that this process works... for me. I guess the key, or trick, is to modify this process in such a way that works for the individual. For some, that may be writing it out. For others, that may even mean role-playing with friends/family. Good stuff. | |

Another way to take action consistently is to apply the s.a.f.e system which uses the law of attraction combined with the s.m.a.r.t. goal system. People wont continue to take action consistently if they do not get a reward or evidence that they have achieved or accomplished something. Get Great Results From Employees: SAFE uses the Law of Attraction to Achieve Dramatic Performance This is how you get smart Creating S.M.A.R.T. Goals This is how you find the way foward Coaching process and structure When you combine SAFE SMART TGROW systems with L.O.A. you get results - by ignoring reality (R) in the TGROW and SMART models L.O.A. wont work. When I find myself on an endless thought-loop, it's usually because I am too much in my thoughts and emotions, riding them into the past or projecting them into the future (a bad habit of mine). Creative, focussed visualization is effective, but unless you find a way to get off the thought train that is taking you in circles, you could visualize for all the wrong outcomes. There is another way that I find simple and beautiful in how it encourages right actions consistently. Rather than ride more thoughts, I remind myself to fully engage the present moment. Thoughts remove us from the now where all the power is. So I try to stay present in my body and I try to just observe my thoughts and feelings rather than ride them. Soon I discover why I am not taking action. The resistance dissolves by engaging the moment in this way. That right now moment is extremely powerful. It is the only place where we can take action. It just so happens that engaging it by being present in our bodies, also clarifies the right action to take. On the whole it seems that the will to do is deeply connected to the body. I have found that unless I get the body moving with a jog or a rigorous exercise, it refuses to work towards my goal - needs to be driven with discipline. But driving my intention and body separately and disconnectedly is not as effective as aligning the body to participate in the same intention that my mind wishes to pursue. And unless I have a dialogue with my body and emanate my wish through it, I cannot get that extra surge of energy I need to realise my intention. Bless you Steve, thats a terrific process of bootstrapping the body into action in the present moment. I finished a lot of work last night and when I almost succumbed to a cup of coffee this morning, in the midst of the struggle, remembered this technique. Boy does it work! The question of shall I, shouldn't I vaporised in an instant and became irrelevant... Must mention though, I have noticed that intentionally unwinding an associating thought sequence to collaborate is a bit tricky - I need to keep watching, lest I lose myself. But that is the little effort I have to make...and thats where all the fun is! Last edited by Anuradha; 12-11-2007 at 01:57 AM. |

Hi, first time poster here This article reminds me a lot of a book that I recently read, which I believe is a popular title among people who are familiar with the law of attraction The Master Key System by Charles Haanel, published by a company called Kallisti Publishing the first few chapters describe an exercise which is really similar to what you describe Steve From the book : from Chapter 1 : 44. Now make the application: Select a room where you can be alone and undisturbed. Sit erect, comfortably, but do not lounge. Let your thoughts roam where they will but be perfectly still for fifteen minutes to half an hour. Continue this for three or four days or for a week until you secure full control of your physical being. From chapter 2: 30. Last week I gave you an exercise for the purpose of securing control of the physical body. If you have accomplished this you are ready to advance. This time you will begin to control your thought. Always take the same room, the same chair, and the same position, if possible. In some cases it is not convenient to take the same room. In this case simply make the best use of such conditions as may be available. Now be perfectly still as before, but inhibit all thought. This will give you control over all thoughts of care, worry, and fear, and will enable you to entertain only the kind of thoughts you desire. Continue this exercise until you gain complete mastery. from chapter 3: 29. For your exercise this week, I will ask you to go one step further. I want you to not only be perfectly still, and inhibit all thought as far as possible, but relax. Let go. Let the muscles take their normal condition; this will remove all pressure from the nerves and eliminate that tension which so frequently produces physical exhaustion. and from a later chapter - chapter 4 29. Now, go to your room, take the same seat, the same position as heretofore, and mentally select a place which has pleasant associations. Make a complete mental picture of it—see the buildings, the grounds, the trees, friends, associations, everything complete. At first, you will find yourself thinking of everything under the sun, except the ideal upon which you desire to concentrate. But do not let that discourage you. Persistence will win, but persistence requires that you practice these exercises every day without fail. It goes on, and at the end of each chapter the writer describes exercises that take the process further, and in the end you are supposed to think of anything you want, hold the image long enough and clear enough and it will urge you to obtain it/make the forces of the universe deliver it to you. |

Great way to frame it Steve - riding your own reflected thought-wave. I've never thought of it in this metaphor, but it does make sense. Lately I've been imagining and feeling energy flowing through me and around me whenever I engage in something deep and passionate. But your paradigm takes it one step further - looping with your own energy, like people feeding off each other in a conversation, but you are looping with your direct affect on the universe. Some people may call this type of state a hyperfocus, but hyperfocusing on your conscious intentions is taking it to a different level. Oh, and the sexual arousal analogy worked quite well for me. Thanks Steve. |

Hi... Well timed topic for me right now. I am usually organised and focused when I need to do things either with work or within my personal life. So I don't usually have a problem. Over the last few months, I've had a significant stress (family illness and death) in my life which has resulted in me exhibiting huge ADHD symptoms (I don't have ADHD by the way)! I feel scattered, cannot settle to do something for more than a few minutes, and have about 4000 million things on the go at once (ok that is an exaggeration!). Reading the article kind of grounded me... so I thank you for finding your way onto my computer screen. I know what I'm experiencing is incredibly normal and to be expected... and it will work its way through. Nevertheless, it was great timing! You can always use fear as a prime motivator. That will produce action steps very quickly! Then again, we are motivated by the pain or pleasure principle.
