Default Steve, what exactly do you eat?

Steve,

You eat vegan and are much healthier for it, but (as you've pointed out) just being vegan doesn't automatically make a diet healthy (eg. scarfing french-fries is pretty bad for your health - vegan or not!).

So I'm intrigued, what exactly is the vegan diet you eat that has proven so healthy?

Could you post an example of what you might eat over a week, for example? It would be very instructive.

Thanks.

As I general rule, I want to discourage people from using the forums as an "Ask Steve" outlet, especially if the answer would require more than a sentence or two. When people address questions to me here, I add them to my "to blog" list.

Basically though... I eat a whole foods vegan diet. Lately I've been really into spicy food, such as Indian dishes or spicy Thai or Chinese food -- anything that makes my eyes water when I eat it.

Well, to add to your blog list if it's too long then, What happened with the raw foods experiment? Decided it wasn't for you?

Not Steve, but I think I remember him saying that it just took too much time to prepare the raw foods. I'm not sure why that is since they are raw, but I guess you need to do some preparation to make it interesting.

Looks like more is involved than just eating stuff raw. And apparently a raw food diet isn't necessarily a subset of a vegan diet. Here's what the Wikipedia says:

Quote:
Many foods in raw food diets are simple to prepare, such as fruits, salads, meat, and dairy. Other foods can require considerable advanced planning to prepare for eating. Rice and some other grains, for example, require sprouting or overnight soaking to become digestible. Many raw foodists believe it is best to soak nuts before eating them, in order to activate their enzymes. Fermenting raw foods such as pickles, yogurt, and kim chee are often time-consuming and require long fermentation periods.

Preparation of gourmet raw food recipes usually call for a blender, food processor, juicer, and dehydrator. Depending on the recipe, some food (such as crackers, breads and cookies) may need to be dehydrated. These processes, which produce foods with the taste and texture of cooked food, are lengthy. Some adherents of the diet dispense with these foods, feeling that there is no need to emulate the non-raw diet.

I remember he still had a new experiment running when he posted the "Why Vegan?" post a little ago.
