Default No Follow Links

Will the SP forums ever remove the "nofollow" tags from signature links, etc.? What is the main reasoning for keeping the tags?

Signature links don't have nofollow on them here.

Google seems to give you a link for being here.

I used Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch to check, and there are around 30 or so SP nofollow links displayed.

How about taking a look at the sourcecode yourself?
Those nofollow links are links like writing a new post or digging a post. All the nice buttons you can press.

I'm no coding expert, so I wouldn't know what to be looking for.

I'm confused,

Are you referring to the links I'm checking on backlinkwatch.com? Or the ones right on the posts I make on the forums (Because it is not detecting these type of links)?

I was refering to the links on this page.

But know I think I understand what is happening. The anchor text for those links on backlinkwatch.com is "Visit jamestl2's homepage!"
That isn't the link in your signature but the link you get when someone clicks on your name and then wants to visit your homepage.

So what is happening then? Where is it reading those links from?

Click on your name: "jamestk2", direct above "Senior Member".
Then you have: View public profile, Add to buddy list and Visit the users homepage.
All those links are nofollow.

Download the SearchStatus extension for Firefox and you can see all nofollow links in pink. That's how I easily knew the sigs. here are not nofollowed.

You are correct that there are some other internal links here being nofollowed, but that has nothing to do with signatures.

If this were my forum, I would make the signatures only seen by registered users, and thus they wouldn't be indexed nor followed by search engines. That stops those people from simply coming in and making posts in order to gain link popularity.

That ensures that those who post do it for the right reasons, i.e., they have a legitimate concern or they want to help others with theirs.
