Default Realizing One-ness

I've been reading articles of Steve's on Subjective Reality and I also heard the Podcast on Overcoming Fear.

In these the idea is to realize that you are consciousness. You are everything and everyone, and that you are fundamentally safe here.

I guess i am very simply asking for opinions on the HOW part. How to get from this attachment to the human body to more of 'I am Consciousness'. And from where I can unconditionally love anyone.

Well, that maybe a tall order... but it is a journey to that place right. So I am looking for ideas on How to get started?

Just ask yourself. Totally, with full sincerity. Like they say, you can't fool yourself. If you really want to know, just go somewhere private, somewhere really important to you, give the question importance, power and sincerity and ask the oneness...yourself. Daily...if it is important enough. If you are truly sincere, I have no doubt you will receive. And directions and answers will appear, and you will find out if that direction is what you really want. All the best.

Well you need to understand that the only barrier is your mind. Befriend the mind first and slowly take control thro concentration exercises and present moment awareness.

Some of the Nonduality teachers recommend practicing the meditation where you ask yourself "Who am I". Keep practicing.

This oneness experience is something I've been looking into too. Oneness is also realizing that duality is a fabrication. And that duality is not something that is to be gotten rid of but something to try to look for that you won't find because it's an illusion. Duality is the seperation of oneness that our minds does. Labelling everything as seperate things in relationship to each other in opposites. If you try to look for one of the opposites and try to see it all byitself, you can't. There will always be the other side being present too, in other words up doesn't exist without down, and as such they are one. Our mind is good at labeling and getting in the way of the spiritual vibes. Quieting the mind takes you a long way to oneness. But it's not that you have to quiet the mind directly. The mind can have it's thoughts while you can allow the thoughts to not be your focus and find there's no need to feed thoughts too much.
Nonduality - Path To Spiritual Awakening
Quote:
The Way to Realizing Nonduality
Even if you only accept the philosophy of nonduality in theory, you stop being hurt by people and outside events. You stop giving importance to unimportant matters, and get a glimpse of the taste of real freedom. When you free yourself from the erroneous idea that you are a separate ego, happiness, joy and inner strength step into your life.

By developing the power of concentration, and through meditation and detachment the mind becomes quiet, and nonduality becomes a fact for us. Then life is lived differently and in a better way.

A practical method that Sri Ramana Maharshi has taught and advocated, and which I can vouch for from personal experience is called the "Vichara". It is a form of meditation in which you incessantly ask yourself in your mind the question, "Who am I?"

Do not try to find the answer through the mind. Just ask the question and let the answer come from the inside. Keep looking inside yourself and asking the question, and your awareness of this "I" will increase. You will find out that as your mind becomes concentrated and silent it becomes easier to experience this inner awareness.

Do not pay attention to the ideas and answers that come from your mind. The answer comes through the intuition, as an inner certainty and knowledge. It is not the mind that KNOWS. It is the PURE CONSCIOUSNESS, your real I that knows.

If the answer comes as a thought, ask yourself whose thought it is, and where did it come from. Look inside to find its source. This source is what we are seeking in this meditation.

This kind of meditation may be practiced often, and everywhere, not just while sitting and meditating at definite times. When the awareness of this "I" increases you will find that at times you experience a kind of a silent, free consciousness, and yet be able to function normally. You will know what Oneness means.

Though on the material level you continue to function as a separate unit, you come to understand the illusion of the world, and experience through your awakened consciousness the reality of nonduality and the Oneness of the Spirit. This is spiritual awakening and enlightenment.

I've recently found very practical instructions on how to do exactly that:

Awareness Watching Awareness Discovery
How to Practice Self-Inquiry

More resources can be found at this site:
Awareness Watching Awareness

Many Sages talk about Self-inquiry and asking "who am I" and focusing on "I AM", but very few give practical instructions on what that exactly is and how to practice it. The AWA method described above is very practical and gives instant results.

I've only experienced this oneness a few times, usually comes through specific type of dreams..... actually I think the word dream is not correct, with me it is more like a "vision"

in this state of oneness, your conscience is so super aware and you are at total peace of mind and heart... you are connected you are one with everyone, it is beyond intellect very hard to describe

it is truly awsome......... I have no idea how this happened to me, I don't have a specific formula at all.......all i know is it happened it was just awsome

It took me a couple weeks to fully grasp it too, but then it just clicked. Give SR a little time.

The links that ethereal gave talks about the best teachers of Advaita. Check them out.

I recommend these books

"I am that" By nisargdatta maharaj and "Talks with Sri Ramana Maharishi".

Yes it took me a while to digest what the heck they were talking about. Now thigns make sense in theory but I am wondering how it would be when I get to feel like that
