Default Journey VS Destination

I have a feeling I know the answer from most of you, but what do you focus on, in your path through life, the destination or the journey?

That is, do you focus on reaching your stated goals, or do you head in their general direction, while always looking around you at where you currently are, looking to see what's going on, what is around you?

I've written a little bit more about what I think about it, but I want to know what you guys think... these forums have been known to inspire my thoughts in new directions, so please, tell me what you think.

neither really

I try to stay in the now, with my destination in the present tense also. I try to occupy the state of my destination NOW.

I try my best to lot look behind or ahead, and when I catch myself doing so - change my thoughts. I stay present at my destination.

Default Direction

Your destination can not (in the normally accepted definition of time) practically be in the present, though it can be in the near future. If your destination is in the present, then you have no destination, no direction through life, and are simply adrift. Which is fine, if that's what you desire... I also try to be in the present as much as possible, focusing on the journey, where I am now, but that doesn't keep me from having destinations I'm traveling toward. They are not, for me, fixed points, but more of an idea of where I think I want to go, which can be preempted if I find something else which I prefer to head toward. For an example, you can look at Steve's post on journaling, where he had directions he thought he wanted to head in, but he ended up somewhere else entirely, or arrived at the same destination via a wildly different path.

there is no journey, you are simply projecting desire/manifestation away from yourself, as the future doesn't exist - there is only NOW.

The better able you are to see your destination (this is just your word for desire) in the present tense, the better able you will be to occupy that state of being.

Default Desiring A Journey

I'm probably one of those who desires a journey... but in reply to your other point, I agree, but until I get to the point where that's more than a mental concept (which is why I said the standard definition of time), it is useful to describe it in the way that I used.

My interest is in the journey mainly, but the destination is often a nice thing, too.

In my opinion, the ultimate example of this mentality is that life is a journey towards death in many ways, but death is not something to fear since it's always going to happen. The best way to live life is as an end in itself, and the best way to face death is as an inevitability worthy of being embraced and not feared.

Lots of little journeys, some with destinations, some without (just wandering about and admiring the view).

I'd have to say that I think the journey and desination are the same thing in the end. In other words, eventually one becomes the other. Pretty much what some other people have said...being in the now.
