This is not a flame, or troll. I am someone who was always very "science" based in my life and I have recently opened myself to other possible realities. I am giving the subjective realty a shot, and i really like what I have experienced so far. But before I diverge from my original thought. I also listen and read science/skeptic podcasts. On a skeptic podcast, they were discusing how they could prove if the practice of cleansing chakra's worked. They claimed if you took 20 people and cleaned 10 of their chakra's. You should be able to take the same 20 people to someone else to get their chakra's cleansed and only 10 would need it. The cleansed 10 should be able to be detected by this second "cleanser". I will fully admint I know nothing about the subject, just thought the comments on the skeptic's podcast was interesting and since I am a recent reader of this forum and Steve's podcasts. It would be great to get "the other side's viewpoint". What is everyone's feeling about this? Is this a fair test? |

Double blind testing sounded good to me, except that I realized halfway through typing this it isn't exactly double blind because 10 who'd been cleansed would know they've been cleansed. But, if one cleanser were less adept than the other it could mess up the data (and that's tricky because there is no data to measure adeptness in the first place.) Also, it assumes that everybody's chakras are clogged up to the same extent and would re-clog with the same speed, so... er, what's the hypothesis? It doesn't seem to measure if it works for the people cleansed (which is sensible-- it could just be a placebo,) so much as if the cleanser in question can see what works, in which case we ought to have a larger sample number of cleansers... and even then if the scientists want it to be real then they'd consider that some are frauds and weed out the real ones with the trials who may have just gotten it on luck -- and if the scientists want it not to be real then they'd consider all the cleansers either frauds or deluded and would likewise seek trends that will prove them right. And who chooses the cleansers? So, yeah, I think it's kind of shoddily designed. Last edited by palimpsest; 06-28-2007 at 06:00 PM. |

Dharma makes a valid point. The funny thing is, some people have this desire to try to control other people when they have not yet mastered themselves. It would appear that individual personal growth could be stretched much further if people focused less on trying to control variables outside their control. Perhaps its human nature to seek what is beyond reach? |
