my ego asserting itself I think mostly it was very difficult for me to see myself reflected sometimes, and you know in marriage sometimes you don't feel loving towards the other person, and I guess I experienced feelings and thoughts that were very adverse to the kind of person I considered myself to be before I got married. I did learn a lot though. so I guess I mean things that pushed you back a bit on your path - that perhaps was a barrier in a way to self development. |

well - I guess what I'm getting at is that everyone is on their path... some call that a spiritual path - others like to look at it as self development or actualization. And for myself there have been several defining moments in that process (I view it as a spiritual process but call it what you will) where I've had great growth and I've gained new insights & understanding ...but there are also certain defining moments that I called obstacles at the time, which may eventually become stepping stones but at the time they were obstacles - which made me feel as though I had lost my way. During these times, I would have a "Lapse" for lack of a better word back into a lesser state of awareness or more of an ego-based reality. I've referred to it in other threads as if I'd fallen back to sleep for a bit. I was asking others about any challenging situations which may have set you back a bit or made you periodically forget what you thought you had known and internalized? I hope this is clearer - sorry to be so vague before. |

| That is as clear as tobacco juice... (just kidding) The point I was trying to bring up is the fact that we grow out of adversity... as in, no pain... no gain... So, how can you honestly say that something has hindered you in your quest for self-development, spiritual growth and awareness... The only thing that I could think of would be personal stupidity or laziness... BTW... I understand perfectly what you are talking about... and I'm simply throwing that in for the sake of stirring the pot... . |

Hi everybody out there, I found this place looking through google looking for a self development site and I found this one, which seems inspiring and supportive which it is what I need at the moment. I like films, books, the outdoors, and anything that can help me grow as a person. Amitaf |

No obstacles. Just manifesting in there the same tests over and over again to see how I would react, in order to 'test' myself from a higher perspective if I'm ready for the next steps. Since I noticed this, there are no obstacles than living outside the now. ~sb |

Limiting beliefs. The things that parents inadvertently drill into their kids, the thoughts that teasing kids inflict upon others, the ideas that a husband or boss can feed to us.... Religion was a big one that my parents inflicted on me. Kids teasing me when I was young made me think that I wasn't pretty. Husband (ex) making me think it was a bad and dangerous world out there. Boss making me believe I was better than everyone else and then yanking the rug out from under my feet. Wading through these limiting beliefs is an educational journey. Maybe I need to be grateful for them because they are teaching me how to become more spiritual, conscious and aware. The things that hold us back are the things that once analyzed and absorbed, help us to grow into the people we are searching for in the end. |

| Same thing for me. For a long time I thought that it was self confidence and worked very hard to build my self esteem and self confidence. However it's really when I accepted myself truly that most of the obstacles fell and I started to bloom.
