What is Your Favorite Way to Meditate? Mine is to just sit upright with my eyes closed and listen to my favorite calm and relaxing movie soundtracks (hanz zimmer is great) and visualize my ideal dream life. Just having your eyes closed will cause your brain to produce alpha waves and you will naturally calm your mind. I do this in the morning and then again about 7 hours later to recalm the mind and feel refreshed and renewed again. What about you? |
I usually mediate while in the "planking" position. Look it up on Google, its very big all over the world. (: Seriously though, I just like to look at the wall in a silent room while trying not to hold onto any particular thought. |
I meditate using binaural-beat audio technology. The audio puts your mind into a deep, authentic meditative state with no effort on your part at all. I like to put on my headphones when I wake up and let the program do its magic for the next hour. I usually fall back asleep, but the program still works while you sleep. Is that cool or what? Purists may scoff, but I've been using this for 6 years and my experience is that it is as close to magic as you can get - more benefits than any other form of personal growth I've ever done (that's a lot). Me personally, I like to meditate right after breakfast and dinner. I just close my eyes and I observe my thoughts and my emotions. I try not to hold to any thought or feeling in particular, but I also make it a point to not try to block out or avoid any uncomfortable thoughts or feelings. I focus on letting them be and accepting their presence. Most times, I also like to incorporate some deep breath holding. Usually towards the end of my meditation. I breath in, I hold for about 10-20 of my heart beats, then I release the breath slowly. |

I recently been meditating on love. It feels good and I do it thought my day by sending everyone I come to contact with love. So far I like it better then anything i've tried before. |

When I meditate I lay on my bed, turn off the lights and still my mind. Just listen to the messages that those around you want to convey to you. Meditation is all about turning off the external auditory things around us all day long which often times block our angels and guides messages. Quiet your mind and just be... |

I lie down, relax every body part, deep breathing and watch my thoughts. I also listen to all the sounds. When I do it right, my whole body feels one. I can no longer feel my feet or my fingers separately. There is only me but it's sort of distributed all over the place. I feel very refreshed after this. Other days, I just keep fidgeting. :p |

By the way, does anyone know what the most effective time to meditate is? I've heard right after exercise or first thing after getting up or just before bed. I've also heard that to meditate after a meal is not ideal. But that's when I enjoy it the most. After exercise is where I find I have more trouble going as deep. |

I do think it could be useful to do it at the same time each day. I like to sit in the rocking chair in my guest room with the morning sun streaming through the windows. I usually focus on a quality of Spirit or a spiritual phrase. This helps my mind from drifting too far away. Some days are easier than others. Della |
Anything you repeat with your body over and over again can be a great meditation. The important thing is to let the body take the lead, not the mind. This repetition can be a movement or it can also just be sitting or standing motionless (as Boddi describes in doing his Chi-gung), which if you think about it, is also a repetition since every new moment you are actually deciding not to move. Zazen is another great meditation method. Meditating in a seated posture with eyes half-closed (45 degree angle to the ground) without moving. Start with 20 minutes and build up to 45-50 minutes at a time. These are just initial recommendations of course. As you gain more experience with the practice you can adapt it to what works best for you in terms of schedule, length of sitting, etc. So long as you work with yourself and your mind, conscientiously and consistently, you are on the right track whether you call it meditation or not.
