Question Does anyone know of an affordable biofeedback device for brain wavelengths?

does anyone know of an affordable biofeedback device which shows brain wavelengths (alpha, beta, delta)?

For during meditation to actually see if you are going from beta to alpha to delta... would be great

because sometimes you may think you are calm but you are not

Interesting. You are trying to use a scientific method to measure mental activities.

But I doubt the device can tell if you are calm or not. Only you know if you are calm or not. Because calm is not an objective measurement but a subjective one.

Thunder this is already proven. The more you calm your mind you go from beta wavelength (awake) to alpha (relaxed) to theta i think (semi-sleeping) and to delta (sleep state)

let me try to find the image for you
here you go:

That is alright.

I do make scientific enquiries. But I realised that sometimes it has its limitation. (Oh, I sound like a New Age person).

For an example, suppose that you have the most accurate device which reveals that while you meditate, your brain waves are the delta waves. So what is the outcome? The outcome does not improve or degrade the quality of your meditation. In other words, you can not improve your meditation by knowing at what level of calmness you are in. It might now make you feel better. But is feeling better your goal, or meditating better your goal?

Well continuous improvement is the goal. And as you know anybody is better able to accomplish tasks when clear goals are set and milestones are celebrated / recognised versus the case where someone just opens a company with no goal at all.

Small victories on the way to your ultimate goal help you to motivate yourself to keep going.

Imagine 2 people. One just meditates and never knows if his practice was good or bad or how far or how close he or she is to the final goal.

Now imagine another person who can clearly monitor it. As I said you may think you have relaxed, but actually you are still in the beta state. Given that complete relaxation is the primary requirement before any spiritual work I imagine it is important to get this right.

Also, if your bio feedback shows you that you are in the alpha state it gives you a sense of accomplishment. This increases your motivation and empowers you to keep going. You know you are making it.

Anyways, that's just my thinking at present time. Maybe 10 years from now I will look at myself and think I was just stupid which is quite possible, but it seems very logical for the moment.

What you said is understandable. I wish you good luck with your adventure.

Note that where you have a sense of accomplishment is also where you have a sense of defect, as that is how the mind works. Once you understand this you may shift your game to study the mind.

You're making unsupported statements.

There is no doubt that using technology to assist meditation can result in amazing results in the quality of said meditation...

lots of research has been done, and many methods are shown to have effects...

sensory deprivation
sound and light entrainment
binaurals
cranial electrostimulation
mind mirror

heck, just a plain old metronome can be awesome...

Alternatively, you can skip all that silliness, and be Guided into Hypnosis &
there be taught how to Instantaneously drop yourself into an anesthesia-state,
or lower where you are Definitely relaxed for as long as you want...
