Well just a thought I wanted to discuss, it would be great to actually be able to chose what will be your next vessel instead of having karma choosing your next vessel.

Well, karma isn't what most people think it is. It's basically just illusion naturally undoing itself. In other-words, it is just balance being sought, like water seeking its level. This weaves its way into your natural desires. So, in effect, you do choose your next vessel.

In-between lives, you have full memory of your previous incarnations. You chose the body you are in now, and you will choose the body you have next.

That certainly resonates for me as well. But how is it that you have come to be aware of this? Is it simply learnings or recall.

At this stage I'm alive and not an expert on death. I do recall an intention between lives to jump back in and get on with it....I think the word reincarnation has overblown significance on it and that significance tends to mysticize the natural transitions of a spirit.

The whole philosophy of reincarnation could be just a figment of mind -Including all the delusion and hallucinations that accompany the mind when it assumes something to be true consciously or not, on the basis of which ( delsuions) it is held to be true- as, perhaps, in the case of Anagogy here..

Still why do you think that 'YOU' will not be destroyed completely? May be , HE who is asking the question will be destroyed and only something else which is not at all what you think you are survives... The fear , the insecurity that leads to such questions could be a manifestation of something that IS and will be destroyed completely..

May be, you are just THE VESSEL being USED...

Actually not. Nobody really minds their own destruction by sleep and then total annihilation by dreamless deep sleep. So what's the big fuss about, eh?? The reason can only be - as usual - imagination gone wild...

Well we all have that inkling within us that somehow we live on..there's no denying it. What I don't get is, that we view death as the pinnacle of self-destruction of the personality. I mean, who cares once I am gone? If there's something more then I will know it...if not, then so be it, I won't know the difference. So why waste my life worrying about it? I can analyse it to my death-bed and still not come to an answer. I just dont get all this talky-talk about 'will i come back', 'will i know it', 'will i be wiser or just a bug under-foot'. My stance is...just 'be'..right here..right now. This is the bread-n-butter of it all in my eyes.

Would the karmic energy just stand aside while we do this?

I just translated a book from India which discusses this same topic in detail. It is called the Anu Gita, and it discusses the effect-energy of one life and how that feeds over into and also practically controls the next life.

Meaning that none of my spiritual or life was just handed to me. I had to work to be where I am now. It requires a keen willingness to figure out what it was i wanted...how to go about making it happen and the incentive to keep stepping towards it.

Re: the OP,

Some people do remember their past lives. Some have memories during their childhood which later fade. Some later awaken to their memories. Erin has past life memories, for instance.

Nothing is maintained without work Reefs. Its up to you how much work you want to put into anything to keep it running like a well-oiled machine. Right now my busy life doesn't afford me the time i once had.

Well, if you actually manage to do this, I doubt Karma is going to force you like a police or a higher being will do it. Perhaps if the Karma is VERY extreme.

I think most of the cases Karma would simply blend into the situation and capitalize on any chance to balance itself, if it is not erase by other means.

Dreaming is, actually, a really great way to think about lives and reincarnation. Death and rebirth... doesn't that sound awfully like what happens to dream characters?
