The point to closing your eyes is to not get distracted by the world. I actually really like to meditate both ways, but I'm good at ignoring my environment. I use eye-open often if I'm doing witness meditation because it allows me to carry that witness attitude with me after I get up. I use eye-closed often if I'm doing surrendering of thoughts because it allows me to get to a very empty place where nothing exists, only emptiness.
But experiment and find what helps you personally go deepest.
