Ascension and Incarnation.
 

Why is physical incarnation needed for ascension? What can we do in
physical matter (slower vibrational light) that we cannot do in the non
incarnate state. Why do we constantly lower our vibration and incarnate
into lifetimes in order to raise our vibration and ascend unto god ?

Things can only be perceived or comprehended against the background contrast of its opposite. Without experiencing cold, how would you ever know the warmth? Without experiencing the dark, you wouldn't be truly aware of the light. If you look at the world through a red lens, how will I ever show you the color blue?

Thus, we come to know that which we truly are through that which we are not.

This is the process of soul evolution. This is the process by which awareness becomes even more aware.

We're all in the muck, it's one big party :)

I think this is best summed up by the Tarot card The Fool.
We might be blissfully standing on our mountain top of joy/wisdom/enlightenment/knowledge but there are higher places in the distance we can reach.

To reach them we have to climb down the mountain and enter the valleys. We can't see what's in them, but to get to our destination we have to go through them and climb a new mountain, to reach new peaks, greater heights.

As for why do we keep doing it, for the adventure! :D
