How long should you stick with a mantra to determine if it works?

In Kundalini yoga, we do meditation on a particular mantra for 40 days. The idea is that doing it for 40 days with a set intent will magnify the intent and remove any blocks.

Thanks, I've been listening to two mantras I was told about, but its only been 7 or 8 days.

It varies from mantra to mantra and it hinges on these factors among others:

Validity of the Mantra
The person who gave it to you
Your sincerity when repeating it

So if all aspects, the mantra, the guru, the disciple are in the proper vibration, then the mantra should work

It is a fact however that whatever mantras did thousands of years ago in India, was valid then. The same mantras may not have the same effects now or may have no effect at all,

Take a look at India and read up on its history and then ask yourself why with all the mantra repetition by pundits versed in proper Sanskrit, the mantras did not work for India.

But besides that there are aphorisms which might be called English mantras
