The Higher Self: Is it really me?

Hi everyone. This is my first post on this forum. Apologies, if this question has been answered elsewhere.
My question is: Is my Higher Self truly me, or is it a separate spiritual entity with it's own consciousness and goals? Am I a soul which has split off from this higher soul and will be reunited with it some time? And will our conscsiounesses eventually merge?
I am coming round to the idea that my Higher Self is in fact my future self, coming back in time to help me. If I progress spiritually from where I am now, in thousands of years time, I would be so advanced that I could look back in time and see myself as I am today. I read some of the Jane Robert's Seth material about 20 years ago, and I think Seth said to Jane that he was in fact a future version of her. Towards the end of the material, another far more advanced soul came through who was yet another version of her, from far into the future. She referred to these entities as Oversouls.
Is there any advanced soul out there who can help me on this?

Hi Erin. Many thanks for the link. I've read through it and it's starting to make sense. I'm going to go through it more carefully and meditate on it. I was mistaken in thinking that the Higher Self was a separate entity; I just need to tune in more deeply into my own consciousness. The idea of the Higher Self being another person to speak to is just a visual aid to help one focus. I was taking it too literally. Thanks again.

HI I thought I might share my experience of the higher self with you to gain some perspective.I am a gnostic and as such only consider truth and knowledge to come from personal experience.At times in my life I have experienced the higher self by actually merging with it.I feel a sense that there is a watcher above me, then I become the watcher.I am floating above myself watching the me that is me but at the same time knowing that I am really the watcher.For me it is a sad affair because in those brief seconds I
see how frail and beutiful human beings are and the problems that we cause ourselves.The upside is I know also that I am of god [the one] and can never die.

I'm not convinced that treating the true you (higher self/soul/sprit) as a separate entity is a good idea. It seems to promote disconnection.

I think the real point of all this physical existance stuff is to help you grow your soul, by having an earth bound reality. Why we can't fully integrate with our true self while in this physicality, is part of the mystery we all are trying to solve.

All of us here interested in PD seem to be searching for the same answer, but are asking slightly different questions. Unfortunately and ultimately only you will ever be able to answer the question for yourself.

Many thanks for your comments. They have been very helpful. It's good to get some help from others who may have gone ahead on the path further than I have and help point me in the right direction. Over the years, I have wasted a lot of time side tracking into different ideas and beliefs. The sooner I get on the right track (and stay there), the better!

The one thing that's helped me from all the PD stuff I've learned over the years, is the importance of this very moment, the power of now.

It's very liberating to stop the past and the future from invading the present.

Many people bring regret from the past and fear of the future and place them both into the present (where you can only ever truly be real) where they cripple you.

Focus on now, put all you effort, thought and passion into the moment, it's all there is.
