Pretty much like the title says, I am looking for ways to quickly induce a state of deep meditation, samadhi, satori, or witnessing. I am also looking for methods of meditation for quickly calming yourself when you may be having a day where your mind is racing, or overly anxious. For me these times have become the exception rather than the norm, so when it does happen it is rather disconcerting and I feel like I would do anything to return to peace. |

This book gives a good method for getting into alpha quickly, if you've never done any meditation before: Amazon.com: The Silva Mind Control Method (9780671739898): Jose Silva: Books Combine these two with practice and you can reach theta almost instantly at will. I don't know of anything that goes beyond that.

By consciously practicing methods to go deeper, I was once again able to unite Intention-setting and exploring consciousness. As I said though, I've never experienced even dhyana, so there may be limitations to my method.

Woops, I imagine the point here is to be able to induce the state even if you don't have a set of headphones with you. AFAIK, it is a matter of practicing so you have a habitual response pattern set up. The more you reach a deeper state, the easier it can be to turn it on like a switch. You could also employ something from NLP, such as anchoring, when you're in the desired state. Then you'd simply need to use the anchor trigger to get into it again. I feel waves of bliss whenever I pinch my ring finger, because I set up an anchor to produce that effect.

I think you could set up a kind of Pavlovian response; that's what the Silva method does (counting backward), and I've heard that people who always meditate to the same music will start to automatically go into a trance when that music starts to play.

1. Get into alpha for the first time 2. Anchor getting into alpha with an easily used habitual pattern (like closing your eyes and counting 3-2-1) 3. Deepen your state 4. Assign your anchor to the new, deeper state 5. Lather, rinse, repeat You can use whatever methods you like for any of the steps. You can use anything as an anchor, so it makes sense to use a simple anchor you can activate anywhere. But even if you don't choose an anchor, the method you use to practice will become an anchor. Personally, I find that the Silva method works extremely well for step 1, and the exercises in Psychic Development for Beginners work very well for steps 2-4. I never had much success with binaural beats, but I would use them in either step 1 or step 3. Then once you're in alpha/theta I would assign a different anchor-something definite, quick, and easy. My anchor is closing my eyes and counting down 3-2-1. I wouldn't want to use binaural beats as an anchor, because it's a little inconvenient, and it's not definite, which slows down the habit formation.

If hurrying is the problem, then surely more hurrying is not the solution. The only shortcut I know of, is to secure the assistance of a real master. Not a famous theorist or spiritual celebrity, but a real master. That said, I don't really see the point in taking a shortcut to exit the rose garden faster, and return to the sewers.

Well thanks for the responses everybody. These are suggestions I am definitely going to try, although the main thing this thread has done for me is make me realize, I'm probably not having as much trouble as I thought. I reach all of these states (except satori) pretty regularly. The whole reason I even made the thread is they stopped coming every day. So I think I must be better at this than I was giving myself credit for. Maybe my next thread should be, why can't I give myself credit when it's due. Anyway thanks again I will try these.

I like the method outlined by Laurie Cabot in "Power of the Witch". I would go into specifics but I don't want to post copywrited material. However, it might be posted on her web page. I like to follow it with her crystal countdown as well.

I wish to share the undermentioned techniques of how to quickly induce the state of deep meditation that I've been practicing for years with you. Step 1: Sit in your comfortable meditation posture. Step 2: Close your eyes and do a breathing warm-up or backward counting exercise. First, begin the process by taking a few deep breaths. Then, practice the breathing ratio of inhalation to exhalation from 1:2 to 6:12. After that, reverse it from 6:12 to 1:2. For example, inhale counting, “One,” exhale counting, “One, Two.” Inhale counting, “One, Two;” exhale counting, “One, Two, Three, Four.” Go up the scale to six counts in, twelve counts out. Then reverse: six counts in, twelve counts out; five counts in, ten counts out; and so on, down to one count in, two counts out. Alternatively, you just simply count backward from 50 to 1. Step 3: Mentally repeat this affirmation, "calm/relaxed." for 5 minutes. When you inhale, silently affirm "CALM". While you're exhaling, mentally repeat "RELAXED". After you've practiced the above-mentioned 3-step techniques, you'll enter a deep state meditation. Surprisingly, you'll find yourself calm and relaxed during that state. Step 4: Before getting out of meditative state, gently tell yourself, "Now I want to get out of meditative state." Then, breathe deeply 3 times, and say to yourself once again, "Eyes open. Fully alert and refresh." Please give it a try, experience it, and enjoy the process. Love, Last edited by chetanachey; 05-21-2010 at 01:08 AM.

I have found this site several times - whilst general googling. And I like it. I have spent 30 or so years training in various therapies - analytical hypnosis; colorpuncture; SRT (spiritual response therapy); reiki; EFT; yoga and chi gung; immunics; Theta therapy - with Vianna Stibal; and recently I have been looking at: Matrix Eneregtics; One Command; Now Healing; and Quantum K - with Andrew Kemp, who lives in Bristol, near me. At 65 I have managed to get rid of childhood trauma and panic attacks etc (helped by 42 years of happy marriage); but my physical health has begun to show a few cracks; and so I still continue the search. Many years ago I saw a powerful healer/psychic at a London Body/Mind/ Spirit Festival - hoping she would tell me I would become an great healer or author or therapist. In broken English, she told me: I "tell people where to go!" http://www.stevepavlina.com/forums/i...cons/icon8.gif Not very polite, I thought! But she meant (I think) that I gave open-minded people directions. Regards to all Laphammy |

Old thread, but since it was bumped, I'll add to it (for the sake of posterity, which appears to be interested in all manner of things Quote:
As for deep meditation, practice. With time, you get to where you can drop into a trance pretty quickly. I can meditate in the most unlikely of situations and places, just because I've been doing it for a long time. There is a kind of shortcut to teaching your brainwaves how to get into a trance state, though. Look into "brainwave entrainment". Usually this makes use of binaural beats, but there are other kinds of entrainment, as well. Just Google. You'll find plenty. (I like the software from Transparent Corp, personally.)
