They either used to lead in cults, they want to start a cult of their own, or they were once led and brainwashed and have become obsessed with saying the words. PD can be culty if people follow too much and don't think for themselves...which happens alot I think.
And yes, I think all those examples you gave are instances of brainwashing and manipulation normalized.

What is a "cult" and "brainwashing" and what is not "cult" and not "brainwashing"?
Is repetitive advertizing on TV "brainwashing" and "coersive persuasion"?
Is peer pressure "brainwashing"?
Is a mother's influence over a helpless new born all the way into the child's teen's "coersive persuasion"? Is a pushy hot girlfriend using "coersive persuasion" on her boyfriend and visa versa?
Is making a child go to music lesson's or to play with other kids in the sandbox or to go to school when they don't want to "coersive persuasion"?
Some of those same critics extend it to say that say Barrack Obama used "hypnosis" in his speeches to get elected. How did so many on line people become such educated experts in "cults" and "brainwashing" and the art of "coersive persuasion" and "hypnosis"?
